🌏🌴 Look After Our Country ... 🌏
Meet Bernard Charlie – a proud Gudang Yadhaykenu man, with Torres Strait ancestry from Badu and Moa Islands – Bernard is Council’s Regulatory Manager with a strong message to share with the world.

Born on Thursday Island, Bernard was raised in Injinoo and Alau, or Umagico – his Dad’s Country.

A passion to protect our homelands, Bernard’s role at NPARC includes animal control and illegal dumping - caring for the environment: “It’s great to be back in the NPA, helping improve our communities,” he says.

“If we look after our Country – land, water and sea – our Country will look after us.”

Bernard would like to remind traditional fishers and hunters who catch and clean sea foods in local waters, “do not leave any carcass remains out in the bush.”

A previous Mayor of NPARC and Councillor for former-Umagico Council, Bernard also has worked away far and wide on remote mine projects, such as: “bauxite in Skardon River, gold at Mt Isa and Kalgoorlie, over in Port Hedland on iron ore & underground in Tanami.”

His favourite place to explore are local islands off the coast where his hunting party loves to camp out, dive and fish.

“It’s the tropical life, clear waters, fresh coconuts, and fresh roasted fish and veggies on the beach – just bliss.”

Bernard’s totems: goanna, eagle, dugong from Moa, & file sting ray ('tupmul') of Badu.

Come and join the NPARC team – we have a wide range of career opportunities to offer!

Submit an Expression of Interest anytime, see - Careers at NPARC link on Council's website, here: https://www.nparc.qld.gov.au

‼️💧 WATER OUTAGES - BAMAGA - Tuesday 1/9/26 & Thurs 3/9/26 @ 9pm - 6am ‼️ 💧
Water storage levels across NPA are dangerously low due a breakdown at the Water Treatment Plant & high water usage at this time of the year. These outages will ensure that water storage increases to more sustainable levels.

Council is working with Veolia Australia & New Zealand to ensure that safe, reliable water remains available to the whole community.
Esso for understanding!
