👨‍🚒 INTERNATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS’ DAY 🧑‍🚒

On St. Florian’s Day, celebrated annually on May 4th, we recognise the courage, commitment and sacrifice of firefighters across Western Australia and the nation. We remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and honour the legacy they leave behind.

Firefighters who have died in the line of duty were today remembered at a memorial service at Kings Park. The annual service honours the bravery and sacrifice of Western Australia’s fallen firefighters, with 103 names now enshrined at Memorial Grove. This year, three names were added, including long-serving West River Bush Fire Service volunteer Mark Mudie, who died saving a neighbouring farm in December 2025. Tributes were also paid to Damian Buswell and Denis Jung.

Today, we particularly remember Albert “Jim” Lees of the Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, who lost his life on 30 June 1996 while serving the community. Each year, we pay our respects at Memorial Grove, and his name lives on with pride on our Light Tanker - both as a tribute to the Lees family and a reminder of the risks our volunteers face in protecting others.

We also acknowledge and thank our members - past and present - and firefighters everywhere who continue to answer the call. To their families, who share in the sacrifice, we extend our sincere gratitude.

🇳🇿 🇦🇺 🎖️ ANZAC DAY - Banjup Memorial Park 🎖️ 🇦🇺 🇳🇿

Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade send our appreciation to everyone who attended and supported this years ANZAC commemoration at the Banjup Memorial Park. We take this opportunity to acknowledge all veterans, those currently serving, and their families within our community, and to express our deep gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

When the small Banjup community was called upon to serve in the Great War, it came at a significant cost to this rural farming district. Banjup alone sent 14 young men to the First World War, of whom six were killed and five were wounded.

We are honoured to look forward to hosting next year’s ANZAC Day service, continuing our commitment to remembrance and reflection.

👨‍🚒 New Member Intake 2026 🧑‍🚒

We are pleased to welcome our ten new recruits Olivia, Adam, Ryan, Hangui, Sheldon, Kerry‑Anne, Anthony, Scott, Kayne and Stefan, who have generously committed their time as volunteers in service of our community.

Throughout 2026, all new members will complete two mandatory foundation courses in preparation for the upcoming fire season. This will be supported by hands‑on experience during the planned burn season, regular brigade training and participation in Jandakot’s structured mentoring pathway, led by Brad and Luke.

We look forward to supporting their development and welcoming them into the team as they begin their journey in the brigade.
