👨🚒 INTERNATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS’ DAY 🧑🚒
On St. Florian’s Day, celebrated annually on May 4th, we recognise the courage, commitment and sacrifice of firefighters across Western Australia and the nation. We remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and honour the legacy they leave behind.
Firefighters who have died in the line of duty were today remembered at a memorial service at Kings Park. The annual service honours the bravery and sacrifice of Western Australia’s fallen firefighters, with 103 names now enshrined at Memorial Grove. This year, three names were added, including long-serving West River Bush Fire Service volunteer Mark Mudie, who died saving a neighbouring farm in December 2025. Tributes were also paid to Damian Buswell and Denis Jung.
Today, we particularly remember Albert “Jim” Lees of the Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, who lost his life on 30 June 1996 while serving the community. Each year, we pay our respects at Memorial Grove, and his name lives on with pride on our Light Tanker - both as a tribute to the Lees family and a reminder of the risks our volunteers face in protecting others.
We also acknowledge and thank our members - past and present - and firefighters everywhere who continue to answer the call. To their families, who share in the sacrifice, we extend our sincere gratitude.
