Dina the dingo update

It has been over 24hours since Dinas discharge from the vet, we have all been so excited to share the news.

Dinas guardian has made a plan with our team at NRDR for dinas accomodation whilst in recovery - Dina is currently staying with the indigenous dingo tamer, jessiemay and her pack.

Dinas guardian has agreed to visit Dina as much as he can and has spoilt Dina with many treats and even bought a new doggy bed for her while she stays with our team.

Dina is walking, eating and drinking like she usually does, shows minimal trauma from the incident and is still her happy and friendly self.

The fractures in her legs are currently bolted in place, by titanium plates and screws. Despite Dina looking resiliant and having her pain meds, we have certain rules and restrictions in place to encourage Dina to treat her body with care as she heals.

That means minimal excerise at max and refrained from jumping, wether it's on people or on the couch/human bed.

(Vet surgeon, Dr John has informed us that the titanium plates and screws will need to be be taken out within 6weeks, to reduce any future infections.)

Dina is currently chewing a bone on her new doggy bed, on her medication as discussed with the vet surgeon and is safe, and well taken care of.

Dinas rehabilitation will consist with behavioural, phsyical and emotional support.

Dina is on our raw diet plan and this has been discussed with the guardian.

***Dina / Dena the dingo companion, was shot by a farmer using what witnesses believe, a 410, which is a type of shotgun(an illegal firearm for this instance). This weapon of choice, sprayed metal pellets over her body — some of which the vets refused to touch as it can be more dangerous to remove.

Dina has been through a really tough time due to the first vet failing to recognise a severe break on her RIGHT leg.

Thankfully, after 3 vet transfers, Dina finally managed to find the right place for her wounds to be treated at***

QUESTIONS/ANSWERS⬇️
Q: What type of gun was used?
A: 410 is what we think was witnessed.
The shotgun used on dina is known locally as a 'snake gun'

Q: Is it illegal, can the farmer be charged?
A: To use on mammels, we believe this is investigatable as it's entirely inhumane.
-Mammels (foxes, dogs, dingos, e.g.)

Q: What is a 410?
A: 410 is a small calibar shotgun, generally what comes out of 410 bores, is metal pellets/led.

Q: Is the dingo going to survive?
A: THANKFULLY dina is still alive! Dina is in alot of pain though it is a miracle that she survived!

Q: Shouldn't Dina get free surgery since she's a native species?
A: Unfortunately no, although dingoes are classed as native animals in all states, they are also classed a pest species (in certain areas, like outside National Parks).

In Dina’s case, she’s a domestic home dingo, in NSW, so she falls under the companion animal act, just like any pet dog.

Q: Was Dinas guardian charged for boarding costs by vets? And how much?

Yes, approximately an extra 600$ was put onto the vet bill due to boarding costs, but due to VSS teams amazing consideration, they reduced the vetbill amount by a couple hundred and amazingly, the fundraiser provided the right amount for the surgery, medication and boarding costs.

AS FOR FARMER AND DOGGY DAYCARE,
A waiver is in place for the doggy daycare, but they have been so helpful with assisting Dina and Luke on so many levels. Luke is thankful to them..

Focus on denas injuries and recovery is paramount at the moment.

RE: The farmer and the suspected choice of gun used to shoot Dina Dingo, has been reported to the RSPCA, we will keep you informed about any updates along the way.

AS FOR THE CONTINUEING FUNDRAISER
Our team has raised the fundraiser to $10,000 to help assist Luke and Dina with the remaining costs for Dinas future surgery in 6weeks.

Kutha and Barina are settling in well. The brothers have been upgraded to a larger yard but still retain their wild traits of hiding away when feeling unsure.
Though the pair are more than comfortable enough to take a nap in the presence of one of our senior volunteers who happily puts in extra time and effort for these precious wild rescues.

Nooka and Kareela absolutely love to play rough, this pair can't get enough of a good old rough house.
