Barwon Heads Fire Brigade

Barwon Heads Fire Brigade We’re volunteer CFA firefighters passionate about our Barwon Heads community. We attend fires, gas leaks, motor vehicle accidents and promote fire safety.

The Barwon Heads Fire Brigade comprises some 25 volunteer operational and non-operational members who live in and around the Barwon Heads community. The Brigade was formed on 1 July 1936 and has been serving the community continually since. We attend a range of incidents - from house fires to grass fires, motor vehicle accidents, gas leaks and more. We also support our fellow brigades on the Bella

rine Peninsula and attend larger scale campaign fires (bushfires) both in Victoria and interstate. We've even rescued the odd cat up a tree. We're passionate about keeping our community fire safe, and have great insights and tips which we share in articles in the local Talking Heads magazine, and on this page.

🔥You may see or smell smoke.
👀 Watch for our crews and follow their directions.

Unexpected weather conditions can mean plans change at the last minute and a burn may not go ahead, even if communities have already been notified. When this happens, our crews will continue to monitor the conditions and re-schedule the burn for a later date.

A busy few weeks for us. We’ve had members attend an off road driving course, Inter-brigade training on ventilation theory and practical and planned burns in the South West. All this on top
of attending local fire calls.

Always refining skills, learning and training to be prepared and ready for whatever fire emergency arises 🔥🚒🧯

Change your clock and check your smoke alarm this Easter weekend ⏰🚨

At 3am on Sunday 5th April some clocks might change automatically when daylight saving ends, but the batteries in your smoke alarm won't.

Take the time to test your smoke alarm as it could save your life.

We understand fuel prices are taking a toll on household budgets right now ⛽️

Transporting and storing extra fuel at home can cause-
🔥 fires
💣 explosions
🚑 health problems

To keep yourself, your household, and your community safe, please be aware of the following advice-
⚠️ Store only small amounts of fuel at home and ensure quantities remain below dangerous goods threshold limits.
⚠️ Use approved, clearly labelled fuel containers that comply with Australian Standards for flammable and combustible liquids.
⚠️ Keep fuel in a cool, well ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and any potential ignition sources to minimise fire and vapour hazards.
⚠️ Store fuel separately from incompatible chemicals, ensuring containers are upright, secure, and protected from heat.
⚠️ Maintain appropriate fire safety equipment, such as a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher, and ensure anyone who may need to use it understands safe operation.
⚠️ Keep all flammable liquids out of reach of children.
⚠️ Be aware that vapours from flammable liquids can significantly increase fire risks in both home fires and bushfires.
⚠️ If we’re called to a fire on your property make sure you tell us if and where you have fuel stored for everyone’s safety including ours 🚒

Our Juniors try to be serious most of the time but also know how to have fun while learning awesome new skills.

✅ build the capacity of young people to consider risk, make reasoned decisions and take control.
✅ develop a world view which widens horizons and nurtures social commitment.

If you’re between 11-15 years old and from the we’d love to see you apply ➡️ https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/volunteers-careers/volunteer-with-cfa/junior-volunteers
