Today is Wear Orange Wednesday.

If you see a flash of orange around Bathurst, that's our crew, and the thousands of NSW SES volunteers across the state who turn out for storms, floods and rescues whenever the phone goes off.

WOW Day is a simple thank you. To the members who leave dinner on the table, who back up after a night shift, who train week in and week out so they're ready when the community needs them. We see you.

Bathurst, wear something orange today. Snap a photo, tag , and use . A small gesture goes a long way.

Do you know anyone completing the Duke of Ed?

Are you or someone you know completing a Duke of Ed Level? Well, spread the word - you can now complete Sections of your Duke of Ed with the NSW SES! 🙌

We’re proud to be partnering with the Duke of Ed and hope to encourage students to undertake one or more Sections through their local NSW SES unit.

Duke of Ed is open to all young Australians aged 14–24, and we’re excited to welcome them as they complete their journeys.

Current NSW SES member and Duke of Ed achiever James Poulos says of his experience:

“Volunteering with the NSW SES and the Duke of Ed have very similar goals and objectives. Both encourage you to learn new skills, step outside your comfort zone and discover what you are truly capable of achieving.”

Happy Mother's Day to all the mums across the Bathurst region. Whether today looks like a sleep-in, a houseful of kids, flowers at the door, or a quiet phone call, we hope it's a good one.

A special thank you to the mums in our unit who pull on the orange overalls alongside everything else they do. We see you, and we're lucky to have you.

If you're out enjoying the weather, take care on the roads and have a lovely day.

Thank you to the volunteers who responded last night.

Thank you to the volunteers who responded last night.

A driver has been airlifted to the hospital in a critical condition following a serious crash at Gormans Hill overnight.

Emergency services were called to Gormans Hill Road about 11:45pm Friday, 8 May, following reports that a car had crashed into a power pole.

On arrival, crews located the vehicle on its side against the pole, with the male driver trapped inside. Several NSW Ambulance crews treated the driver while rescue operations were carried out.

NSW SES, Police Rescue and Fire and Rescue NSW all assisted at the scene, with the driver trapped for an extended period as crews worked to free him. Toll Rescue was also tasked from Orange and landed nearby at an oval.

Once extricated, the driver was taken to the awaiting rescue helicopter.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the man sustained serious head, leg and arm injuries and was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The crash also caused a widespread power outage across parts of Bathurst and surrounding areas, with approximately 1,500 properties left without power for close to two hours while the scene was made safe and the damaged pole inspected.

Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Operations at the Bathurst tip are ongoing with the NSW SES Bathurst Unit jumping in to assist with lighting, allowing crews to work safely.

NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW are now being supported by heavy equipment to pull the pile apart to work on fire extinguishment through the night and into the morning.

As the wind eases through the night, the smoke may settle in surrounding areas and residents are encouraged to keep doors and windows closed.

We're deeply saddened by the loss of two Marine Rescue NSW volunteers in the line of duty.

Every time volunteers answer a call, they accept real risk to help people they've never met.

Our thoughts are with their families, friends and crews, and with everyone aboard the vessel they were going to help.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stall at the Bathurst Show on the weekend. It was great to chat with so many of you about how we prepare for floods and storms, what's in the truck, and the kit we use on rescues.

A few highlights from the day:

Plenty of curious kids checking out the rescue gear 👀

Good conversations about the Hazards Near Me app and knowing your warning levels

New faces asking about volunteering with us

Bathurst stopped this morning, as it does every year. Dawn services, marches, a minute's silence shared between strangers.

ANZAC Day is one of those rare moments where the whole community pauses together. It matters. The stories matter. The names matter.

We remember. 🌹
Lest we forget.
