Way Back Wednesday . . .

Looking along this scene of William Street the Tourist Hotel can be seen on the left of the photo. Originally on this site was the First Nugget Hotel. The hotel was demolished in 1939 and replaced with the Tourist Hotel which opened on Saturday 9th March 1940. The Tourist Hotel closed in the 1990s.
On the right is a partial view of Bathurst Motor Inn Hotel. As stated in the book Inns and Hotels of old Bathurst Town by W H Tighe “During 1927/28 while James McSorley was the owner and licensee, the hotel was extensively rebuilt. Cast iron columns supporting the balconies over the footpaths were replaced with concrete arches. This gave a strong arcade look.”
