Get to know one of the dedicated members who serves our community!
1. How long have you been serving with Beaufort Fire Brigade? 🚨
I have been serving with the Beaufort Fire Brigade since January 2023. Prior to this, I spent many years with the Skipton Fire Brigade, bringing my total service with CFA to over 20 years.
2. What inspired you to become a firefighter or member? 🚨
My journey began as a junior member with Skipton in 2004, where I competed in JRN competitions. Growing up in a community where the brigade plays such a vital role, I was strongly influenced by my father, who was heavily involved in community services, including CFA and as an Ambulance Community Officer. For me, it has always been about giving back and supporting the local community.
3. What is your favorite part of the role? 🚨
The variety within the role is something I really value, from travelling interstate and gaining nationally recognised qualifications, to experiencing things I wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do. While helping the community is incredibly important, the highlight has to be getting on the red truck and fighting fires.
4. What does serving our community mean to you? 🚨
Serving the community means being someone people can rely on in times of need. Through CFA, it’s about protecting lives and property. More broadly, it’s about stepping up and lending a hand wherever it’s needed to achieve the best possible outcomes for those in need.
5. What training courses have you completed that you're most proud of? 🚨
I’ve completed a range of training with CFA, including Internal Structural Firefighting, nationally recognised Chainsaw Operations, Crew Leader, and First Aid qualifications. I was also fortunate to be supported by CFA to receive a Victorian Heavy Rigid Truck Licence,
6. What is one fun fact about yourself? 🚨
Outside of CFA, I work in health and have held roles including Pool Lifeguard, Ambulance Community Officer, Patient Transport Officer, and Registered Nurse. I’m also involved in community volunteering with Apex, fundraising through events like the CFA Stair Climb, and running BBQs, all while involving my family, including an up-and-coming CFA volunteer currently at JRN level.
