We are really sad to hear that Aradale Ghost Tours - Ararat Lunatic Asylum are losing access to their asylum near Ararat in Western Victoria.

There are so few places left like theirs and ours, where we can all tour and hear of our history, and losing anything like this is always keenly felt.

These facilities are immensely important for our social, architectural and historical cultural heritage, so this is a real kick in the teeth for anyone who loves these old facilities, whether from a historical or from a paranormal perspective.

We will support our sister and the people who run her in any way we can in this time of bureaucratic and political idiocy.

Note: We took down the last post as people weren't reading and thought it meant us. We are still open and running as per usual.

This door jamb was literally hanging on for dear life.
A metal pin at the bottom and ONE nail at the top were all that held it in place.
The door itself was a Frankenstein-thing of multiple layers of ply over an internal, hollow door.
Now, with the work being undertaken, it will be replaced with a solid hardwood door, styled in the way of the correct time period, to match another external door that still exists on the building.
Alpine Wood Wizz & Sons are doing all the work, and their work is amazing. A true craftsman.

Many of you will have seen the ‘For Sale’ sign we had up in the windows earlier this year, and the sign’s disappearance a little while ago. Unfortunately, we have had no real interest from anyone in buying the business as a going concern and we’ve now reached the point where we are going to wind up Beechworth Books.

We are terribly sad to have reached this point and we remain very open to any genuine offers to take on the business as a going concern.

We hate AI (we also run a publishing company, and AI is killing art), and we will NEVER use it.
EDIT: I'm not going to argue with people. We do enough of that on our publishing house page.
