Bega Valley Bee Club meets on the second Thursday day of each month, at 6.30-8.30, Behind the Seventh Day Adventist Church. 31 Upper Street Bega Regardless of whether you already have working hives or are simply considering becoming a beekeeper, we welcome new members, amateur and professional alike. The club can assist new beekeepers with the acquisition of gear, with advice on establishing you

At the club apiary we have adopted a multi modal approach to varroa control that includes both chemical and mechanical methods. In this video we see the use of a queen pipe to trap the queen bee and then she is placed into a queen cage to restrict her laying and reducing the varroa mite load of the hive.

Our club apiary days happen on the Saturday following our Thursday evening meeting. All members are welcome. Come along and learn something new, meet other beekeepers and participate in our community of practice 🐝🐝🐝

Our next club meeting is scheduled for Thursday 13 August at 6:30 pm in the SDA Hall in Upper Street Bega. This month our apiary manager will be talking about preparing your hives for spring. Please bring a plate to share for supper.

This Saturday 11 of July is our club apiary morning. Join us at 10:00 am at the OBH. Afterwards we will head to the Heritage Centre for a hot cuppa and continue the bee chat.

Processing Methods: Together we’ll discuss ways to clean, render, and filter raw wax into beautiful, usable blocks.

Project Ideas: From candles and lip balms to food wraps and furniture polish, let’s explore the endless possibilities of what you can create.

The club celebrated International Bee Day at our club meeting in May. Members were asked to bake a honey-inspired treat to share, and the response was nothing short of amazing. See the photos below. We were overwhelmed with the response, a true testament to the power of community.

Club member Bena baked baklava that won the people’s choice prize, a well-deserved recognition of her talent. A $50 credit is waiting for Bena to spend at our club shop, a wonderful reward for her efforts.

A total of $80.00 was collected, and it brings our club donations to The Wheen Foundation to a remarkable $280.00, a true demonstration of our collective generosity. 🐝
