Local Histories - Penny Jones Photo Collection
From 1990 – 2017, artist Penny Jones photographed the families of the First Nations people living in Wallaga Lake & Bermagui. This is Djiringanj country, part of the Yuin Nation. β€˜These photos were taken over many years and represent many generations. I think they show, more than words ever could, the warmth, strength and beauty of these First Peoples.’ View our collections here: https://library.begavalley.nsw.gov.au/Heritage-History

Local History - John Ford Photo Collection
In the early 1970s John came to Wallaga Lake with the local branch of the CES, as an Aboriginal Employment Officer. At the time he was a keen amateur photographer, and often took photos as part of his job. β€œI’d be taking photos as part of a community program and soon families were lining up to be involved.”

National Reconciliation Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' achievements, the week is a shared responsibility rather than a burden placed solely on First Nations people. The goal is to build relationships and communities that value Indigenous histories, cultures, and futures.

Gabbie Stroud in conversation with Jade Timms πŸ“–πŸ“š

Join us this Friday for an entertaining evening with author Gabbie Stroud, as she celebrates her new novel, 'The Angry Wives Club'.

Gabbie is a novelist and recovering teacher, who has published several books that have been short-listed for awards. Her latest novel, 'The Angry Wives Club', is a story about women and friendship, families and relationships. It also brims with hope and laugh-out-loud moments. The best thing is, you don’t have to be an angry wife to enjoy it. Gabbie's previous novel 'The Things That Matter Most' is currently being adapted for the screen!

Gabbie will discuss her novel in-conversation with local author Jade Timms. Everyone is welcome, light refreshments will be served.

Bega Library – Fri 29 May, 5.30pm -6.30pm

Book online here πŸ‘‡or call the library on 6499 2127

Join us!

If our wonderful library volunteers have inspired you to give volunteering a go, we have vacancies!

We are looking for volunteers for a range of tasks and at different locations.

Check it out! This could be your year to volunteer.

If you’re in the Bermagui area, have experience in technology trouble-shooting and would like to share what you know with others, then give us a call on 6499 2411.

If you’re interested in general volunteering at Bega Library we’d love to hear from you. Call us on 6499 2127 or email [email protected]

Our Here 2 Help adult literacy and numeracy program is also looking for volunteers. The program is delivered at Bega and Tura libraries and more tutors are needed as well as volunteers willing to help with the H2H children’s activities.

All library volunteers require current NSW Working With Children Checks (free for volunteers from Service NSW).
