🏉 Belair Primary SAPSASA Knock Out Footy 🏉

We are incredibly proud of our students who recently represented Belair Primary in the SAPSASA Knock Out Football competition.

Our girls' team hosted their matches at Belair Primary on 28 May, while our boys travelled to Colonel Light Gardens Primary School on 29 May to compete. Although neither team progressed to the next round, every player gave their all, showed outstanding sportsmanship, and represented our school with pride.

A special congratulations also goes to three of our boys who were selected to represent Belair as part of the Southern Heights District Knock Out Football team. What a fantastic achievement!

A huge thank you to our players, staff, coaches, and supporters. Win or lose, the determination, resilience, and school spirit shown by our students made us all proud.

Have you ever wondered…

🔢 How can I best help my child with maths at home?
🤔 What strategies actually work?
📚 Is maths taught the same way now as when I was at school?

Join us for a parents only fun, engaging and informative evening with Professor Peter Sullivan, visiting from interstate, as he shares practical, research-based ideas to help children develop confidence, curiosity and a love of mathematics.

Discover the thinking behind the maths practices we use at Belair and learn simple, hands-on activities you can use at home to support your child’s learning.

Whether you're helping with homework, talking about numbers in everyday life, or simply interested in how children learn maths, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable insights and hear from one of Australia's leading mathematics education experts.

Debating has returned to Belair Primary School in 2026, with Mrs Ali Farmer once again coaching both our enthusiastic teams. This year, we have two teams representing us: a Year 5 team and a Year 6 team, each comprising five dedicated students.

Throughout Term 1, both teams have been working hard, training and developing their debating skills. This term, they have already participated in Rounds 1 and 2, and we are proud to share that both teams are off to an outstanding start, each achieving two wins from two debates.

Our Year 5 students have been focusing on the fundamentals of debating. They have been learning how to structure their arguments effectively, write thoughtful rebuttals, and collaborate as a team.

Meanwhile, our Year 6 students are building on the skills they developed in 2025. They are now delving deeper into advanced debating techniques, such as identifying logical fallacies, using statistics and data to strengthen their cases, and further enhancing their public speaking abilities.

Congratulations to both teams on their fantastic achievements so far. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success throughout the debating season!

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week takes place from 27 May to 3 June. This is a significant time for all Australians to reflect on our nation’s journey, to discover more about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to consider how each of us can actively contribute to reconciliation.

The dates for National Reconciliation Week remain the same every year, as they commemorate two important milestones: the 1967 referendum and the High Court’s Mabo decision. These events mark essential steps in recognising the rights and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, “All In”, calls on every Australian to wholeheartedly commit to reconciliation, every day. It’s a powerful reminder that reconciliation is not something we watch from the sidelines, nor is it the responsibility of First Nations people alone. Creating positive change is up to all of us, together.

Sorry Day

National Sorry Day on the 26th of May acknowledges and recognises the experiences of the Stolen Generations. The forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families has had a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities. Sorry Day provides us as teachers and staff with an important opportunity to engage our students in conversations about Australia’s history, the impact of the past, and the crucial role that acknowledgement and empathy play in healing.
