Hey all, its Mel, the Unit Controller for Barwon South West Regional Unit..

Today was one of those small but meaningful days that really fills your cup 💛🧡

As a Unit Controller, I couldn’t be prouder to see our space at VICSES Barwon South West Regional Unit come to life with our new signage and wall decals. Walking into the Geelong office and Incident Control Centre now, you can truly feel who we are and what we stand for.

These aren’t just stickers on a wall — they represent our values:

✔️ Connection to our community
✔️ Safety in every decision
✔️ Focus and adaptability
✔️ And most importantly… that together, we are VICSES

🎉 5 Years of Service – Melissa Petrisevac 🎉

The Barwon South West Regional Unit is proud to recognise Melissa Petrisevac for 5 years of dedicated service with VICSES.

Melissa joined the Barwon South Regional Unit in 2020 and has also supported the Bellarine Unit as a dual responder. In 2023, she stepped into the role of Unit Controller, while also contributing as a VICSES employee in both BSO and VSO positions.

A dedicated nurse and committed VICSES volunteer, Melissa is known for her compassion, strong teamwork, and the lasting friendships she builds across the organisation.

Thank you, Melissa, for your ongoing commitment to supporting the community and embodying the values of VICSES. 🧡👏

Thunderstorms are possible across most of Victoria this afternoon (Wednesday 25 March), with severe thunderstorms possible over central and eastern districts and south of the divide.

It is difficult to forecast exactly where and when a storm will develop, but the increased risk is in Gippsland, the Yarra Ranges, and the Dandenong Ranges. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall and large hail are possible. Severe weather may continue into the evening.

The best defence against storms is preparation:

🚗 Park your car undercover and away from trees.
🏠 Clean your gutters, downpipes and drains to ensure they are not blocked.
☂️ Check that loose items such as outdoor furniture, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the incredible women across VICSES and the wider Emergency Management Sector.

We are especially proud in our unit to be supported by such a strong group of women leaders. The majority of our Unit Officers are women, and we are fortunate to have a female Unit Controller guiding our team. Their leadership, dedication, and resilience make a real difference in the work we do and the communities we serve.
