We all know that the current driving laws these laws make no sense when it comes to cannabis.

Medicinal cannabis is legal. Has been for years.

Yet people are still losing their licence over traces, not dangerous driving.

That is not road safety measure.

That is old prohibition and stigma in the form of road policy.

The laws are behind the times. Time for a change.

If cannabis was legal tomorrow:

Youth usage would drop.
Police could focus on real crime.
Courts would ease up.
The economy would benefit.
Veterans could access medicine without fear.
The list goes on.

Prohibition is failing Australia. Legalise Cannabis!

Potentially hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars spent in one weekend by NSW Police.

NSW Police say 708 drivers allegedly tested positive during Operation RAID.

Research published by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research found the average cost of prosecuting a drug use or possess offence in NSW is $977 per case.

But NSW roadside drug testing detects the presence of cannabis, not impairment.

That means some drivers can test positive long after consumption, without evidence of dangerous driving.

How much public money is being spent pursuing trace cannabis detections instead of genuinely dangerous behaviour on our roads?

This is starting to look less like road safety and more like prohibition enforcement.

It’s time the laws changed.

MardiGrass was never just about cannabis. It was built by people willing to stand up, push back and protect freedom, community and culture when it wasn’t popular or safe to do so.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says cannabis reform is a matter for the states.
Jeremy Buckingham MLC says the Commonwealth still controls the framework.
From scheduling to criminal law, federal action will help move Australia forward. Did you see Ben Lee and the PM joking about cannabis on Spicks and Specks? It barely caused barely a ripple.
The culture has already changed. The laws should too.

It was a successful weekend in Nimbin for MardiGrass 2026.

Activists, locals, musicians, growers, campaigners performers, industry people and community leaders all came together to celebrate culture, conversation and decades of peaceful rebellion.

It was great to catch up with so many familiar faces from across the Legalise Cannabis movement and the wider Nimbin community.

The movement keeps growing because the people behind it never stopped showing up.

At Nimbin MardiGrass, heavy roadside drug testing raises a simple question, is this about road safety or enforcing prohibition?

Local pharmacist Aimee Pearson has officially launched her campaign for the Farrer by-election, joined by Legalise Cannabis Party MP Jeremy Buckingham.

From roadside drug testing reform for medicinal cannabis patients, to stronger health services, better infrastructure, fair water allocation and real support for local businesses — this campaign is grounded in what the region actually needs.

The message is simple.
Smarter laws. Better outcomes. A fair go for regional communities.

With local media on the ground and pre-poll now underway, the momentum is building.
