GIVEAWAY!

As part of our 80th Celebration, FEM will be hosting a Celebration Lunch on the 29th of August at a venue to be confirmed in Bendigo.

Ticket information will be sent to our current FEM brigades shortly.

BUT we need your help. We know brigade members have moved around, and we would love for you to share this message widely with anyone who may be interested.

We are also looking for history and information. We know brigades and members have so much information, memorabilia and other items tucked away in their collections.

We want to know your stories, histories and how FEM has helped your brigade.

For anyone who can send us some information to [email protected], include your details, and we will include a historical PFA patch for your collection (while we have some in stock).

Well done to all of the teams and competitors that participated in the CFA / VFBV Firefighter State Championships - Celebrating CFA 2026.

So many familiar faces and great conversations across such a huge range of topics.

Thanks to everyone that stopped by to have a chat, see our displays and being patient with us while we worked through the repairs.

A massive shout out to all of the volunteers that helped behind the scenes for what was a hugely successful couple of weekends, particularly the team from Stawell Fire Brigade.

See you all next year!

In 1946, a year after the CFA was created, the organisation realised there was a need for the fledgling authority to provide residents and businesses with fire protection equipment servicing.

Portable Fire Appliances, or “PFA,” performed largely the same work as we do now, providing advice, training, information, and equipment servicing to customers.

Technology changed, the role changed (we certainly don’t hand-paint Manual Call Points anymore), and the name changed, too, with Fire Equipment Maintenance being the current name since the early 90’s.

The program has been moved around departments, originally part of the Special Services Department, it has also seen a home in Works and Services, Finance and currently in Fire Risk, Research and Community Preparedness, to name a few.

Over that time, the program has allowed brigades to raise tens of Millions of dollars to fund vehicles and equipment, VESEP grants, build stations and extensions, access training and infrastructure, and provide social support.

The FEM team currently provide assistance to a number of key functions of the organisation, including instructing courses, delivering industry training, assisting with Championships, representing CFA at national technical committees and providing sound and expert advice across a range of topics, including hose, portable equipment, mediums and other related items.

We want to help our brigades celebrate this incredible milestone, and we will be planning celebrations and information throughout the year, including a celebration dinner (date to be provided).

But most of all, we want to hear from you! How FEM has helped your brigade and your communities.

If anyone has any history or items they would like a light shone on, please email us at [email protected], and we will do our best to collect and highlight them.

This program is nothing without our members, and we extend our ever-grateful appreciation to all members who have been involved, past and present – the work you all do is truly incredible.

From everyone in the FEM team.

With the forecast for tomorrow, our Brigades and Offices will be stretched to capacity with a variety of factors, and we appreciate both our customers and brigades' patience.

For our customers, our Brigades will likely be concentrating on firefighting operations today and tomorrow. If you are trying to contact them or there are changes to your servicing, we appreciate your patience.

For our Brigades, the office and field staff will be open and working, though with some modifications as our team supports Operations in various capacities. If you can't get through, leave messages, and we will call you back ASAP.
