At Central Springs Reserve, Daylesford, Djaara’s deep relationship with water is now beautifully reflected in the landscape 💧

Set near Lake Daylesford, restored mineral spring pumps are surrounded by striking brass artworks by Timani Nicholls-Moore, with symbols embedded into the paving that speak to culture, story and Country.

DJANDAK was proud to deliver new pathways, signage, and a BBQ and picnic shelter as part of this major revitalisation project. Shaped by collaboration with the local community and Australian, state and local governments, the reserve is now a culturally enriched landmark.

This renewed space invites visitors to slow down, connect to Country, and experience Djaara Culture in a meaningful way.

DJANDAK is transforming Prouses Road Recreation Reserve in North Bendigo into a gathering place where everyone can connect with Country, learn about Djaara Culture, and enjoy time on Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country).

This community space is about to become something more special.

Next week, construction will commence through the Balak Kalik Manya - Walking Together program.

The project will transform the site into a real asset for the area, featuring:
✨ Interpretive signage sharing Djaara stories
✨ New shelter and yarning circle
✨ Landscaping with native plants
✨ Improved pathways

Being outside in nature is great for wellbeing - and we're excited to make this space an inviting place to connect with Country.

Our works at the Prouses Road Recreation Reserve build on the City of Greater Bendigo's recent playground upgrade, to create a welcoming space for the whole community.

We'd like to acknowledge and thank the many local stakeholders who have contributed to our vision, including the City of Greater Bendigo, local residents, Kalianna School, and Ironbark Gully Friends. The Balak Kalik Manya - Walking Together program is funded by Agnico Eagle.

What to expect: Construction activity, temporary pathway diversions and some closures of the play space over the coming months. Thank you for your patience.

Protecting What Remains 🌿

The Eco Show explored Nardoo Hills Reserve on Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) - one of the few places in Victoria with healthy Grassy Box and Box-Ironbark ecosystems - which we protect in partnership with Bush Heritage Australia.

First aired in 2021, this episode is even more relevant today. Climate and ecology challenges haven't eased - they've intensified.

Watch, learn, and understand why protecting these rare ecosystems matters. Nardoo Hills shows us what's possible when Country is protected and cared for. Let's learn from it.

DJANDAK's innovative approach to Wheel Cactus control at Buckrabanyule has gained statewide recognition. Since 2021, Bush Heritage Australia and DJANDAK have been working in collaboration to tackle Victoria's worst infestation of Wheel Cactus.

In the keynote address at the Victorian Weeds conference in October 2025, Shana Nerenberg from DJANDAK's Biocultural team and Bush Heritage Aboriginal Partnerships Manager Bambi Lees demonstrated our success in controlling the noxious w**d, and discussed how the partnership between DJAARA and Bush Heritage Australia is helping both organisations heal Country and strengthen Culture.

January 26 is a date that changed everything for Aboriginal People. The arrival of the First Fleet and the raising of the British flag in 1788 marked the beginning of colonisation – a time of profound upheaval for our Ancestors, who had cared for this Country for thousands of generations.

We know this history is uncomfortable for many Australians. Yet understanding it is essential. A shared truth creates the foundation for respect, healing, and unity. It makes us stronger as a society.

We look forward to the day when we can all acknowledge our shared history – and celebrate our shared love for this Country.
