Benloch pre-Fire season checklist ✅ If your thinking of burning off in Benloch this weekend, please bear in mind the following tips to ensure you’re doing so safely.

✅ Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn on 1800 668 511.
✅ Check and monitor weather conditions – particularly wind.
✅ To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand.
✅ Leave a three-metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn
✅ Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading.
✅ Never leave a burn-off unattended – stay for its entire duration.
✅ If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately.

This photo was taken on one of our roads during the 2015 fires in Benloch that occurred in this very week, four years ago. There was no visibility due to the smoke. This is why you should ALWAYS LEAVE EARLY. Even if your property is not yet under threat, your escape routes might already be.

Benloch Pre-fire season checklist ✅ What is your bushfire survival plan?
If you live in Benloch & surrounds, then it’s important that you know that you live in a high fire danger area.

Every Benloch & surrounds family should have a bushfire survival plan. If you are new to the area, or need to update your, now is the time to do so.

A written and preferably well-practised plan will help you remember what needs to be done during a crisis. Before the fire season hits, it would be good practice to sit with your family and update or create your fire plan. 🟧It’s that time of year to lay it all out again, the hard truths🟧

Truth be told, we are the first line of defense and we need more members! No experience is necessary. We are in need of operational volunteers who we can train up to help us on the truck, and fighting fires. We are also in need of non-operational members who can help with communications, community events, running meetings, helping keeping the station, truck and gear ready for action.

We are all busy people, and we all know it’s a juggle, but we all know the difference our service makes. Many hands make light work. We encourage more neighbors to message us and join in on the effort to keep our community safe.

Benloch Pre-fire season checklist ✅ Time to clean up flammable materials from around your house 🏠

We know we love our wood fires during winter here in Benloch 🔥 . But now that Spring has sprung, it’s time to move that remaining flammable woodpile 🪵 away from your home and sheds in time for summer ☀️ . While you’re at it, remember to clean out those roof gutters and prune back any vegetation that may impact your home and property.

Doing your part to keep your fire risk down on your own property, keeps the fire risk down in the whole community 🫡 We thank-you for being an active Benloch citizen.

(Ps) also, we all wish we had a wood pile this big still left … but just not up against our house 😉
