Our members responded quickly today to a Request for Assistance in Caulfield South, where a large truck had collided with a tree.

What looked straightforward from the street turned out to be a large and complex chainsaw job, requiring careful planning, coordination and skilled cutting to make the scene safe.

The team managed it fantastically, working methodically to remove the damaged tree and clear the area for the community.

This is exactly what our volunteers train for. Well done to everyone who turned out.

If you see a fallen tree, storm damage or flooding, call the VICSES emergency line on 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 000.

Today one of our own took the plunge, literally. Glen Eira SES Unit Controller Chris jumped into the icy water at St Kilda Beach for the Law Enforcement Torch Run's Polar Plunge, hosted by our friends at SES Port Phillip.

Chris braved the cold to raise funds for Special Olympics Australia, which provides year-round sports training and competition for people with intellectual disability and/or autism. Through sport, athletes build skills, friendships, independence and real belief in themselves, and that impact reaches far beyond the playing field.

By getting behind Chris, you're helping:

- Fund inclusive sports programs across Australia
- Provide coaching, equipment and competition opportunities
- Create communities where everyone belongs
- Break down barriers and build a more inclusive Australia

We're proud to see our Unit Controller leading from the front. It was cold. Very cold. But every dollar makes a difference, and there's still time to get behind him.

Together, we're freezin' for a reason. Donate to Chris's fundraiser here:

Last night our SES Glen Eira unit welcomed our new General Rescue Truck, a Medium Rescue Truck (MRT), and farewelled R1 after 12 years of serving our local community and the wider state.

This new truck gives us a greater ability to support the community as its needs change, and it allows us to better assist other units across Victoria State Emergency Service.

Our members were incredibly excited to cut the ribbon on 'Glen'. Thank you to the VICSES Assets team for the guided tour and for their support throughout the process.

Finally, thank you to our local Glen Eira City Council councillors for joining us to unveil the new truck: Cr Simone Zmood, Councillor Kay Rimbaldo; Glen Eira Council; Moorleigh Ward, Arabella Daniel - Councillor for Glen Eira - Jasper Ward and Cr Jane Karslake.

Congratulations to four of our Glen Eira Unit members, recognised this weekend at the VICSES Eastern Metro, Southern Metro and Bayside Metro Ceremony 2026.

πŸ… VICSES Values Award – Regional and State – Danielle Eyssens
A standout achievement, with Danielle recognised at both regional and state level. The VICSES Values Award honours members who have demonstrated the VICSES values in their position, and a double win reflects just how consistently Danielle lives those values within our unit.

πŸ… National Medal – Sean Tame
Sean joined Glen Eira Unit in 2007 and has served as both Section Leader and Deputy Controller, a role he continues in today. He has attended more than 690 jobs and holds qualifications in Chainsaw, SWAHS, Unit Duty Officer and Crew Leader.

πŸ… National Medal – John Sammons
John began his SES journey with Rosedale Unit in 2009, serving as Unit Controller from 2010 to 2014. He went on to join Morwell Unit as a Section Leader, then Moorabbin Unit, before joining Glen Eira Unit in 2019. John has attended more than 781 jobs and holds qualifications in Four Wheel Drive, TAE, Unit Duty Officer and Land Based Swift Water Rescue.

πŸ… 40 Years Award – Anthony Jones
Anthony joined Glen Eira Unit in 1981 and has served as Deputy Controller, with VICSES Life Membership awarded in 2023. His qualifications include SWAHS, Crew Leader, Urban Search and Rescue, Land Based Swift Water Rescue and High Angle Rescue over his nearly 45 years of service.

Four decades of service, more than 2,500 jobs attended between these dedicated members, and values recognised at both regional and state level. This weekend was a brilliant showing for Glen Eira Unit and the Victoria State Emergency Service. We are incredibly proud of Danielle, Sean, John and Anthony, and grateful for everything they continue to give to VICSES.

111 years on from the landing at Gallipoli, the spirit of the ANZACs continues to shape the way we serve our communities today.

This morning, members of Glen Eira SES attended the Bentleigh RSL Anzac Day service to pay our respects to those who have served, and those who continue to serve.

Anzac Day is a time to reflect on sacrifice, courage and community. We are proud to stand alongside our local community in honouring that legacy.

Lest we forget.
