Berowra Rural Fire Brigade Welcome to the official page of Berowra Rural Fire Brigade. We are a brigade in the NSW Rural Fire Service, staffed completely volunteers.

The Brigade volunteers show tremendous community spirit and courage in protecting their local community from the threat of bushfires. These volunt

eers donate over a total of over 4000 hours of their personal time per annum in the service of their community. In addition, they play a critical role working in partnership with Fire Rescue NSW on the M1, the Pacific Highway and all roads in the local area, as a fire protection service during motor vehicle accidents and domestic and industrial fires and incidents.

Hazard reduction burns are taking place across NSW this week where favourable conditions allow, to reduce bush fire risk and help protect communities ahead of the next fire season. Today, RFS crews are assisting the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service with the Blaxland Ridge East Stage 2 hazard reduction burn in the Hawkesbury region of the Wollemi National Park.

Smoke from this burn may be visible locally and in areas of western Sydney this afternoon, settling overnight in to tomorrow morning before clearing through the day.

This afternoon, we were asked to visit a resident in Berowra Heights to complete a property inspection. What a magnificent view!

The resident is extremely well prepared, but 24 years on from the last major bushfire event to impact Berowra, we had a really good conversation about something that can easily be overlooked: are you still physically and mentally prepared to do what you may have done all those years ago?

We love spending time with our residents and helping them prepare themselves, their families and their properties for the risk of bushfire.

Planning to make a plan is not a plan.

We love where we live, but bushfire is a risk where we live too. Having a Bush Fire Survival Plan means making some important decisions well before there is a fire threat, including whether you will leave early or stay and defend, and understanding what that decision will require of you.

Be on the front foot. Prepare your property, have the conversation and make your plan.

If you’d like us to visit your property and provide a property inspection, please get in touch. And if you need some help working through your Bush Fire Survival Plan, just ask. We’re happy to sit down with you, talk it through and help you put a plan together.

Last night, Berowra RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 075 Berowra responded to reports of a vehicle fire on the Pacific Highway at Berowra 🔥

Crews worked to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe, with overhaul and decontamination procedures also being completed.

The call provided our crew with the first opportunity to utilise the new Breathing Apparatus (BA) sets carried on Berowra 6.

BA is an important capability at incidents involving vehicle fires, where crews can be exposed to toxic smoke and other hazardous products of combustion.

Berowra 6 continues to prove itself as a handy and versatile asset for our brigade. With a 9,000-litre water capacity, along with its new Breathing Apparatus sets, it provides crews with both a substantial water supply and additional firefighting capability when responding to incidents such as this.

A great example of the added capability Berowra 6 brings to our brigade and the wider community. 🚒💨🔥

We are saddened to hear of the passing of former member Sandy Barnett.

Sandy was one of Berowra’s early brigade members and made a significant contribution to both the brigade and the wider district before moving to southern New South Wales.

We acknowledge Sandy’s service and the part he played in the early history of our brigade.

Our thoughts are with Sandy’s family, including his brother Jack, his friends, and all who served alongside him.

Rest in peace, Sandy.
