The Berry Station Master's Residence and Precinct

The Berry Station Master's Residence and Precinct THE BERRY STATIONMASTER'S RESIDENCE It is a rare early example of the J2 Stationmaster's residence design, which predates the standard railway designs of 1899.

The Berry Stationmaster''s residence is part of the Berry Railway Station group which is State Heritage listed and owned by RailCorp. Its immediate past use was by the Scouts. Since they vacated the building it has been left to rot and decay. RailCorp does not have the funds to maintain all its heritage items and want to demolish it, as it would cost too much to repair. RailCorp need to put in a

DA as it is a State Heritage item before they can demolish it. So only the Berry Community to save it. Many uses have been put forward as suggestions for its use - as a Cafe and Tourist Information Centre for people such as tourists and cyclists.

A rare photo colour photograph of Toolijooa Railway Station.

Toolijooa railway station is a closed railway station on the South Coast railway line that was between Gerringong and Berry. The station opened on 2 June 1893 and closed on 19 October 1974. The station was equipped with a platform, waiting shed, and hand signal to allow the train to stop to pick up passengers where necessary. In 1899, a request for additional accommodation and sanitary rooms for men and women was approved by the Railway Commissioners. A siding was planned for the station, but the matter was held in abeyance due to land needing to be dedicated for the road approach.

“1893-The railway reaches Gerringong”
Throughout the 1880’s men carried out the backbreaking work of digging through the extremely hard rock (including 4 tunnels) to connect Gerringong to Sydney via rail.
Samual C***s a local photographer was commissioned to photograph the project. This photo is the cutting past Easts Beach.
