Please note fire permits are now mandatory.

Today, 27 Local Government Areas (LGA) commence their Bush Fire Danger Period, with several areas beginning a month earlier than normal due to the prevailing dry conditions.

Additionally, two LGA's will commence their Bush Fire Danger Period on 14 September, which is two weeks earlier than normal.

Residents and land holders should ensure they understand the rules around the use of fire. Along with required fire permits, you must also notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn 24 hours in advance.

Four members received certificates for course work at our Tuesday night meeting.

Our brigade is committed to ongoing training and encourages our members to upskill whenever they can.

This batch of certificates were courses as diverse as Fire Fighter 1 and Structural Fire Fighter through to Navigation and Community Engagement Facilitator.

The RFS provides an amazing array of courses on line and in person training.

The brigade was honoured to attend the Berry Rotary Club meeting on Thursday night along with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 224 Berry.

We were invited to speak about the work we do and the importance of every family having a bushfire survival plan as well as how to prepare your property before the fire season.

Captain Ben and President Rob
took the opportunity to present Rotary with a Certificate of Appreciation for their support of the brigade both in the past and ongoing.

Berry is very fortunate to have such an active Rotary Club.

Watch out for Wildlife

Last night BVB Brigade were called out to a vehicle accident where unfortunately a car came to blows with a wombat crossing the freeway.

Nobody (other than the wombat) was harmed. However, the potential for this sort of collision is real but also when people suddenly serve to miss an animal.

Fire and Rescue NSW Station 224 Berry along with Cambewarra Rural Fire Brigade and NSW Police Force South Coast were in attendance to this one.

Please exercise caution when driving at night and especially when you are in an area where the speed limit is high.

Yesterday afternoon Broughton Vale Berry were paged to a bushfire call at Tomlin Rd at Broughton Vale.

Our Cat 2 appliance was the first to arrive appliance and we established control over the incident while calling for more resources.

Broughton Vale Berry Cat 9 appliance was next to arrive and supported the operation in mapping the fire. It was approximately size 15m x 10m and of low intensity.

We were supported by Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade 1 and 1

Yesterday was one of those sunny winter days that hold the promise of warmer days to come. It was also near perfect conditions for a pile burn just out of town. The brigade was approached to undertake the burn and our crew quickly got to work and in a couple of hours it was all over. Just a reminder that we will soon enter bushfire season when all pile burns will require a permit.
