It is with a broken heart that we learned of the passing of Ernie Parkinson, a long time member of the library.
Ernie was the cornerstone of our community. Not only was he an absolute gentleman with a heart of gold, but he embodied what it means to be an active community member. He served on Council for years, and was part of the team that got Bindoon connected to the electrical grid in the mid-70's.
Over the years, he had been a member of almost every community group in town, including the Ag society, the Men's Shed, the P&C, and the Retirees.
Ernie was head over heels in love with Pat, and he continued to be even after her death. My fondest memory was when he brought his wedding album into the library and shared with us their special day. Pat was a stunner, and Ernie was still shocked he'd managed to woo her.
Each visit to the library was never complete without a cuppa and a chat with Ernie. He loved his rom-coms and had watched every DVD in that collection thrice over. He also enjoyed a good read, but he wanted a 'nice story, with a good love story'. He told me they reminded him of Pat and all the years they'd shared together.
By far, the best part of one of Ernie's visits was the hugs. He gave the best hugs, and I cherished every single one.
We'll miss you so much, Ernie, but we know you've reunited with Pat and are back where your heart has been. Rest easy ❤️
