Thank a First Responder Day — an opportunity to recognise and express our gratitude to the dedicated volunteers and emergency service personnel, who serve our communities with commitment, courage, and professionalism.
Whether it's responding to Fires, road crashes, rescues, Structure Fires or supporting community, First Responders are there whenever they are needed, often facing challenging and unpredictable situations to help others.
Birdwood CFS, are proud to serve alongside so many outstanding emergency service volunteers. We would also like to extend our appreciation to our families, employers, and supporters whose understanding and encouragement make this service possible.
Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to thank a first responder. A simple gesture of appreciation can mean a great deal to those who dedicate their time and efforts to keeping our communities safe.
Thank you to all first responders for your service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

⚠️ Elevated Fire Weather Forecast for Tomorrow ⚠️

While tomorrow officially marks the end of the Fire Danger Season, dry conditions remain across the state and continue to pose an increased fire risk.

This week alone, our volunteers have responded to more than 14 grass fires across the state, highlighting how quickly fires can start and spread.

🔥 With the risk still in the landscape, please take caution and remain vigilant when conducting any activity involving fire.

If conducting a burn, ensure a responsible person is in attendance at all times, water or a suitable fire extinguisher is available, and regularly check once the fire is extinguished to ensure it hasn't reignited. Ensure you follow any local restrictions or guidelines.

Your actions can help prevent unwanted fires and keep our communities safe.

A member of the Birdwood CFS Brigade for over 70 years, providing service and leadership to the community, his efforts were greatly valued and he will be missed.

His funeral was held today, Friday 10th April at the Birdwood Lutheran Church.
Birdwood CFS Brigade members formed a Guard of Honour, with the fire trucks escorting the procession.
Our thoughts are with Graham’s wife Brenda and his family at this time of mourning.

• Flinders - Extreme
• Kangaroo Island - Extreme
• Lower Eyre Peninsula - Extreme

Fire Danger Ratings

Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Catastrophic, well prepared, well constructed and defended homes may not be safe during a fire. To ensure your survival you should leave tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
• If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.
• In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.
• Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council.
• Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.
• Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions
