🌊🏅 Our Birkdale South Community!

Our Year 6 Student Leaders joined local Redlands Councillors and Acting Mayor Cr Julie Talty at the Birkdale precinct, where the new lagoon and white-water rafting facility is planned as part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

These students came ready with questions about environment 🌳tourism, jobs and sporting opportunities. They were very pleased with the answers provided by Acting Mayor, Cr Julie Talty and left feeling very excited about the future. 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Importantly, our students also had the privilege of hearing Cameron Costello speak about Country and the significance of this land, sharing an Indigenous perspective and his support for the future of the site.

For our students, this was incredibly valuable. Conversations about significant developments in our community are important for them to be part of.

Today, our young people were able to hear first hand about Country, connection, conservation and the importance of listening to Indigenous voices as we consider the future of this special place. 🌿

And then there was one possibility that really captured their attention…

🏊‍♀️ Our current Prep students could one day have swimming and water-safety lessons at a world-class aquatic facility WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE of Birkdale South!

Perhaps one of the best parts of the morning was seeing just how genuinely our students were welcomed into the conversation. The adults present repeatedly acknowledged the value of having young people there, asking questions and sharing this moment.

After all, these are the children who will grow up alongside this development. The decisions being made today will become their Redlands tomorrow.

Today our students weren’t just hearing about the future of their community, they were standing right where part of that future could be built, talking with the people helping shape it.

A powerful real-world lesson in leadership, civics, sustainability, Indigenous perspectives and community.

Thank you to Acting Mayor Cr Julie Talty, Tracey Huges - Protecting Community Values, Cameron Costello and our local Redlands Councillors for giving our students such an extraordinary opportunity.

🌊 2032 might sound a long way away… but for the children of Birkdale South, the legacy is already beginning.

Father's Day Stall Today |

A reminder that our annual Father's Day stall filled with special items for Dads, Granddad's is on today!

We are so pleased as well that our STEM Excellence Students have created their own items that are also on sale. Their first business initiative proudly taking flight.

Don't forget to to send in cash in a ziplocked bag or envelope and ensure it is named.

💛 A huge thank you to Eat Up Australia! 🥪

We are so grateful for a delivery of fresh sandwiches and snacks to support students in our school community who may be experiencing food insecurity.

These resources are here to make sure that no child has to go through the school day hungry.

There is absolutely no shame in needing help — sometimes families go through seasons where a little extra support makes a big difference. 💛

Thank you, Eat Up Australia, for helping us care for our students in such a practical and meaningful way. 🥪

Wednesday = Father’s Day stall! Don’t forget to send in cash in a zip locked bag clearly marked for your child to purchase their important Father’s Day gift!

Thursday = Dads’s and Donuts Father’s Day breakfast! Starting at 7.15am, spend the morning before work with young person. Games, Lego competitions and Father’s Day challenges galore!

🎨✨ BIRKDALE SOUTH NIGHT OF ART 2026! ✨🎨

It’s time to celebrate the artist in every child! 🌟

We are so excited to invite our families and community to the Birkdale South Night of Art! A colourful evening celebrating creativity and community.

🌙 Wednesday 16 September
⏰ 5.00pm – 7.00pm
📍 Birkdale South State School Hall

Here’s what you can look forward to:

* 🖼️ EVERY student will have artwork on display! Come and find your child’s masterpiece in our Art Gallery.
* 🎨 Create with your kids! Join in a special collaborative family artwork on the night.
* 🔨 Bid on your class collaborative artwork and take home a very special piece created by our students.
* 👩‍🎨 Be wowed by our Artist in Residence, Rachel Saurini, as she creates a masterpiece LIVE across the two hours. (auction’d on the night!)
* 🌟 School Band Performance
* 🍦 Ice Cream Truck
* ☕ Coffee Van
* 🌭 Canteen available
* 🪙 Gold coin donation at the entrance to the Art Gallery, with all proceeds supporting the Arts Program at Birkdale South.

This is more than an Art Show — it’s an opportunity to stop, look closely and celebrate the imagination and creativity that exists within every Birkdale South child.

Year 5 Camp! 🏕️
The final 24 hours where mateship, courage and teamwork starts to shine.
Thank you to our team of staff; Miss Urqhart, Miss Hudson, Mr Hague, Mr Blackburn, Mrs Webster, Chappy Stacey and Mrs Turnbull for all their support of our students on camp.

Thank you Emu Gully for bringing the lessons of our ANZAC’s to life!

📣 Father's Day Jellybean Guessing Competition! 🍬👨‍👧‍👦

In Week 8, our Student Council will be running a special Father's Day Jellybean Guessing Competition outside the office each morning from 8:30am to 8:45am, and again at our Dad's and Donuts Breakfast on Thursday morning.

For a gold coin donation, students can make up to three guesses at how many jellybeans are in the jar. The lucky winner will take home the jar of jellybeans as a special Father's Day gift for Dad!

We encourage all students to visit our Student Council representatives each morning during Week 8 and join in the fun while supporting a great cause.

Year 5 Camp 🏕️ Update

Our students have embraced learning about the strength and courage shown by our Australian Army during War time in PNG. The stories shared by our Emu Gully educators have helped our students to embrace the Spirit of Mateship.
