There is an increased risk of grass fires this summer.

It is important that you understand grass fires and how to protect yourself, your family and your property from the threat of fire.

Grass fires are unpredictable; they can start anywhere, spread rapidly and move three times as fast as a bush fire.

Have a plan so you and your family will know what to do when a grass fire is close by.

For more tips on how to prepare for fires this summer, visit the NSW RFS website:
www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/grass

If you identify a fire without a fire truck in attendance, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

🔥 Looking to burn off over the holiday period? You will need a Fire Permit 🔥

With the 2022/23 Bush Fire Danger Period in force, if you are looking to use fire on your property of the Christmas/New Year holiday period, you will first need to obtain a FREE Fire Permit.

Fire permits help ensure that fire is used safely. A permit sets out the rules around how a fire is lit and maintained, and lets firefighters know when you are conducting burning activities on your property.

Once you have a Fire Permit, don't forget to notify all adjoining neighbours and the NSW RFS at least 24 hours before you light up. The easiest way to provide your notification to the NSW RFS is online:
https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

You should also check:
- Whether a No Burn day has been declared
- Whether the Fire Danger Rating is High and/or a Total Fire Ban is in force (suspending all Fire Permits)
- The expected weather conditions

Failure to obtain a Fire Permit during the Bush Fire Danger Period can result in substantial fines and even prison terms of up to 12 months for serious offences.

To get in touch with your local Brigade Permit Issuing Officer, contact the NSW RFS Cudgegong District Fire Control Centre on 02 6372 4434 (Business Hours).

Introducing the Australian Fire Danger Rating System.

Fire Danger Ratings are now simpler and easier to understand. By using the latest science and technology, they provide a more clear and accurate rating to save properties and lives.

The Fire Danger Ratings give you an indication of the consequences of a fire, if a fire was to start.

The higher the rating is, the more dangerous the conditions will be.

For more information about the new Australian Fire Danger Rating System, visit the website:

Planning to Burn? Don't Forget to Notify.

With the Bush Fire Danger Period concluding this evening (at 11.59pm), the requirement for landholders to obtain a fire permit also concludes.

However, it is important to remember that although you will no longer require a fire permit you still need to provide the NSW RFS - Cudgegong District and all adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours notice of your intention to burn.

Notifying the Cudgegong District Fire Control Centre is easy! You can submit your intention to burn notice by:

Online - www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
SMS - 0408 116 465
Email - [email protected]
Social Media - m.me/NSWRFSCudgegong
Phone - 02 6372 4434 (business hours only)

When submitting a notification, landholders must include:

- Full Name
- Address (and Property Name if applicable)
- Contact Number
- Burn Dates (maximum one month at a time)

Notifications allow for the NSW RFS to be aware when landholders are conducting burning activities to avoid wasting time of our attending to controlled burns.

Failure to notify can result in substantial fines and prison terms for persons found to be in breach of the Rural Fires Act 1997 and its Regulations.
