‘I consider each work a quiet floral portrait, free from over styling or
background noise. Working on the organic surface of birch ply, I layer mixed media — inks, pastels and pencils — to convey both the vulnerability and
resilience found within each bloom.
The humble glass bottles, jars and jugs featured throughout the series are chosen as understated, utilitarian companions to the florals. They transform
into jewel-like forms when illuminated, catching and refracting sunlight in unexpected ways. Through layers, of colour and texture, I’ve tried to translate this little bit of magic, and allow the paintings to sing’ Fiona Lenord
