Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW. However, due to the ongoing fire risk, the BFDP will be extended in four Local Government Areas, including Gwydir, Mid-Western, Moree Plains and Narrabri.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

At 1900 this evening, Blayney brigade was alerted to a grass fire in Neville. Blayney responded and upon arrival with Barry Hobbys Yard brigade, a direct attack was done on the fire to knock it down. With the arrival of Neville and Mandurama the fire was completely extinguished.
This fire was also slowed down due to the owner maintaining fire breaks throughout the property.
This was likely started by lightning strike during this evening storms. This is a reminder to check your properties after a storm.
