A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Saturday 5 September for the Greater Sydney Region, with Extreme fire danger forecast.

Warm, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, with much of northeast NSW experiencing High fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Remember to report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

🔥 Get Ready for the Bush Fire Danger Period🔥

With the Bush Fire Danger Period starting on 1st OCTOBER 2026 it’s important to prepare your property and use your bush fire survival plan in place.

Before the bush fire season:

🏠 Prepare your property. A well prepared home is far more likely to survive a bush fire.

✅Trim overhanging trees and shrubs

✅ Mow grass and remove cuttings

✅ Remove material that can be burnt around your home

✅ Clear leaves and debris from gutters

✅ Prepare a sturdy hose or hoses

🔥 If planning a burn on your property ensure safe burning by following the required guidelines and notifications.

Clean away built-up grease and fat from grills, trays and drip pans before firing it up.

🔥 Bush Fire Danger Period Commences TOMORROW - 1 September 2026

As we head into spring, the Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) commences across the Hunter Valley (Singleton & Muswellbrook) from 1 September 2026.

With warmer, drier conditions ahead, now is the time to make sure you’re prepared and understand your responsibilities when it comes to fire safety.

🚒 Before conducting any burning or using fire outdoors:
• Check whether a fire permit is required.
• Check local conditions and fire restrictions.
• Ensure fires are properly controlled and extinguished.
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Keep your property prepared and your access clear for emergency services.

A small fire can quickly become a dangerous bush fire. Plan ahead, stay informed and help keep our community safe.

REMINDER 🔥 - The Bush Fire Danger Period in the Lower Hunter District begins on 1st October 2026. (Cessnock, Dungog, Maitland & Port Stephens)
Until then please follow below-

✅ You are required to notify NSW RFS and your neighbours at least 24 hours prior to burning.

🔥 Don’t forget:
• A Fire Permit is required during the Bush Fire Danger Period
• Always burn safely and in suitable weather conditions

🚨 If a burn hasn’t been notified, it may be reported as a fire—resulting in crews being dispatched and possible penalties.

✅ are based on weather and fuel conditions.

⚠️ An initial Flood Watch for the Hunter and parts of the Mid North Coast has been issued.

From overnight Thursday into Friday, minor flooding is possible along the Paterson and Williams Rivers.

Minor flooding is possible along the Manning and Gloucester, Goulburn and Hunter Rivers and Wollombi Brook from Friday.

🛑 Steer clear of floodwaters. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.
