Hunter School Sports Association Hunter School Sports Association is part of the Department of Education. It administers sports programs in the Hunter for both Secondary and Primary schools.

The Hunter Girls Rugby League Under 12s were presented their jerseys by Ben Jeffries NRLW Knights women's coach.

The girls were given a tour of the Centre of Excellence and had the chance to meet some of the NRLW women's team.

Boys:
Hunter PSSA Rugby Union trials for 2026 have been rescheduled for Monday 29 June at Ernie Calland Field, Gateshead. Trials will go ahead on this date no matter what.
Girls:
Hunter PSSA Rugby 7s trials for 2026 have been rescheduled for Wednesday 24 June at Empire Park, Newcastle.

RUGBY POSTPONED
Good morning all,
Unfortunately there has been some damage done to the grounds at Beaches to go along with the continuing rain fall, and even with good weather predicted over the weekend, we won't be any good for Monday. This in conjunction with the amount of water on other grounds around and no guarantees they will be open, Luke and I have made the call to postpone our trials on Monday.
Can you please inform your players and parents. Our new trial date will be Thursday June 11, still at Ernie Calland Field.
We are aware this is Star Struck week, however the PSSA Sports Calendar does not have a lot of available options for us to try to fit in. If this potentially affects one of your boys with Star Struck Tech and Dress Rehearsal on that Thursday, please contact Luke and myself.

The GIRLS TRIALS will need to be also POSPONED again from WEDNESDAY to a new date to be fixed.

Well done to the Primary Boys Hockey team who performed well at the State Champs and took an overall silver medal. Winning eight out of nine games was testament to their overall dominance. Well done players.

Primary Rugby League ...

Over the past few weeks, both under 12s boys and girls rugby league teams have come together at the West Mayfield Training Facilities to prepare for the upcoming NSW Primary Schools Sports Association Championships.

These sessions have included a combination of skill based drills and opposed training activities designed to develop game awareness, decision making, and team culture.

Players have shown positive engagement throughout each session, particularly during opposed drills where competitive situations were introduced.

NSWCHS trials wrapped up yesterday with the following Hunter boys successful.

16 Boys

Will Manning
Duncan Gatt-Smith

All boys will take part in the Australian School Championships in Coffs Harbour July 6-11.

This gives a total of 18 Hunter students (22.5% of NSWCHS state teams) taking part across the 4 teams of both Boys and Girls along with 4 Hunter staff (33% of NSWCHS staff) also involved.

Well done to all involved in our Rugby League Program in 2026!
