What is the point of dedicated volunteers putting effort into restoring our railway history only for it to stay outside in the elements due to a lack of undercover space?

Come along on 31st May to help Rail Heritage WA fundraise to extend their museum roof to protect our state’s railway heritage!

APRIL 2024
During the leadup to this auction of asset, the auction was supported by the local Kalgoorlie Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry, City of Kalgoorlie Boulder developed a Project Concept Draft resulting in eight concept sub-projects of which the process then appears to have not migrated. During this time Rail heritage WA had not been included as a stakeholder, they were alerted of the proposed auction, with support, multiple assets of Rail Heritage WA that were located at the Railway Heritage Precinct, inclusive of some rolling stock was retrieved prior to auction. Rail Heritage WA secured further rail asset for posterity with several assets moving to other localities. Rail Heritage WA is a collaborative partner in projects.

The auction progressed with some perceived or real conflicts of interest of representation impacting the site.

The site is included in the State Register of Heritage Places of Western Australia.

The Golden Mile Loopline Railway Society parted ways with close to 140 assets that went under the hammer on Saturday.

The responsible people in control of the custodianship of the Golden Mile Loopline Railway pictured here, served for some time including during the then Governor of Australia's visit to the RAILWAY Precinct of the historic heritage settlement and the historic industrial belt the Great Golden Mile. Also pictured is our then Kalgoorlie Boulder Visitor Centre manager hosting to the site.

Sadly the historic railway site was auctioned following a failure to utilise more productive and consultative models of Heritage Management Approaches by the responsible actors, custodians, stakeholders and stakeholder representatives.

STEPS that never came !

𝐅𝐅: 𝟗: 𝐏. 𝟒𝟔𝟑𝟗, 𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 [𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞]. Subway and Loopline Railway (former) association.

A state Heritage Listed Railway precinct that currently forms part of the Local Government led Boulder Tourism & Heritage project. Multiple stakeholders are more regular contributors through Traders and the Boulder tourism 'committee/group' of the Local Government.

An interesting site further the survey level submission process close on the 10th September as the greater population awaits the next step. With a 'VISION' of a form of 'Boulder Tourism Master Plan' presented for comment it is an interesting (discrete) project in context of rising to incorporate values in the evolving mining heritage values and management.

One aspect, the SCA: Special Control Area of the Fimiston open cut operations and expansion see the corporate miner as a historical and current stakeholder, in the stakeholder heirarchy.

An interesting difference in tourism and Heritage sites land planning and impacts, of the Boulder Railway heritage precinct and the Hannans North Heritage Mine precinct in the Australian Mining Heritage Provincial City of Kalgoorlie - Boulder.

For general public understanding, if you explore mapping underlaying the conversations and tables that are directing the future of Kalgoorlie - Boulder, a historic permanent inland settlement of Australia, it may help the understanding of modern mining's mine site actions and the multiple actors who are stakeholders in the multiple thematics of the Golden Mile Loopline - Boulder Railway Station site and aspired impacted project of a Tourist Train.

SCA means Special Control Area, they are applied in various circumstances, some are State Policy controlled and general others are specific. For here it is only to give a general understanding. The markings are not precise however are a very good indicator.
