🔥 Fire Danger Season Update 🔥

Today, 1 May 2026, marks the end of the 2025/26 Fire Danger Season. While this is welcome news, it’s important to remember that today’s weather patterns mean there is still an elevated risk of unpredictable fires should one occur.

Keep taking sensible precautions around your property, stay alert to local conditions. Fires don’t read calendars, and out‑of‑season incidents can still have serious consequences.

If you’ve ever thought about giving back or lending a hand locally, Bowhill CFS is currently looking for new operational members to train before next fire season. Volunteers make sure the truck gets out of the station when the community needs us most.

No matter your background, if you’re willing to learn, do a little training, and help protect Bowhill, we’d love to hear from you.

To find out more, simply submit your details at 👉 https://data.eso.sa.gov.au/enquiry-cfs.html and someone will be in touch to chat about volunteering.

🚒 Fire Danger Season Update – Murraylands Fire Ban District 🚒

*Don't get caught out!*

While Fire Danger Season has now ended in some areas across the state, it remains in effect within the Murraylands Fire Ban District, which includes our local area.

This means that any burning carried out between now and the end of the month still requires a permit from the relevant local council. This applies to all forms of burning, including agricultural burns and burning on private property.

Stay familiar with current restrictions and permitted activities during Fire Danger Season. You can find clear guidance on what you can and can’t do on the CFS website here:

Please ensure have the appropriate approvals in place before lighting any fire. Expiation fees (fines) in the Mid-Murray Council area are $473 with a maximum penalty of $5,000. https://www.mid-murray.sa.gov.au/services/fire-prevention

If you’ve ever had that moment of thinking, “Maybe I could help out…” this is your time.

The Bowhill CFS is looking for new volunteers who want to make a difference in our community. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to be super fit. You just need a willingness to learn a short basic course to get you started, a commitment to your neighbours, and a bit of community spirit.

Whether you’re interested in firefighting or just want to understand what volunteering actually involves, we’d love to meet you (and maybe convince you to sign up😉.

🚒 Come down to the Bowhill Fire Station 90 Weber Road, Bowhill. tomorrow from 6.30pm (we're just having a short meeting). Meet the crew, check out the truck, ask questions, and see how you can be part of keeping our community safe.

When someone calls 000 for help, we need willing volunteers to help our neighbours, and that volunteer could be you.

Would you be on call? Simple answer yes. Long answer—you're always "on call", but only turnout to the station when you can spare the time, got commitments? No worries, if we have enough active members, we can still get crew on the truck.

Know someone in the deaf community?

A new tool launched to support the deaf community in emergencies 🤳 Check out the details below.

New tool launched to support the Deaf community in emergencies 🤳

The Auslan Emergency Interpreting Service (AEI) app has been officially launched, offering deaf and hard of hearing Australians live access to Certified Auslan Interpreters during emergencies.

Using secure video technology, the app enables real-time communication between a person in need and an interpreter, helping emergency services provide the right support. This is another important step in making emergency response accessible and inclusive for everyone in our community.

✅ Dials 000 direct
✅ Real-time relay
✅ Free
✅ Available 24/7

The AEI app is available at any time and can be used for any type of emergency. Watch the video below for more information and how it works: https://www.expression.com.au/news/auslan-emergency-interpreting-aei-app-to-launch

Alongside the National Relay Service, this is another resource we can help promote that supports effective communication during incidents and community engagement activities.

At the end of last year, CFS joined SAFECOM, SA State Emergency Service, and South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service at the Deaf Festival in the Adelaide parklands. During the festival, a video featuring key emergency services messages translated into Auslan by the Deaf Butterfly Effect was shared with attendees. Watch the video: https://youtu.be/h3mUy75oktg
