Another great outcome for the community today. Fire and Rescue Bowral responded to assist in the rescue of an injured magpie in Burradoo.

Our firefighters were able to safely recover the bird and ensure it received the care it needed. While we’re often called to more serious emergencies, we’re always proud to lend a hand when local wildlife is in need as well.

A reminder that if you come across injured wildlife, keep a safe distance and contact the appropriate rescue service for assistance.

Tonight at Bowral 234, Firefighters completed their annual SCBA refresher course before putting those skills into practice during a fire attack and rescue simulation.

Training under breathing apparatus is more than just wearing the gear — it reinforces air management, communication, search techniques, crew safety and decision-making under pressure.

These realistic scenarios help ensure our firefighters remain prepared, confident and capable when every second counts.

People are often surprised by how physically demanding firefighting really is.
To become a firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW, recruits must complete the Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) — a series of real-world firefighting simulations performed in full PPE under sustained physical load. Once you’re in the job, firefighters are required to complete annual fitness and operational competency assessments to ensure we remain capable of safely doing the work our communities rely on us for. 🚒💪

If you want to see what it takes, check out the FRNSW PAT information here:

These drills are a vital part of maintaining operational readiness and ensuring our crews are prepared to respond safely and effectively when the community needs us most.

A great effort by all and a big shout out to rapiddemolition for providing the site. 👏🚒
