To our volunteer dads: thank you for juggling family life with call‑outs, training, and long nights supporting our communities. Your commitment sets an example not just for your teams, but for your kids who watch you step up when it matters most.

And to the dads behind the scenes — the ones who support our members, keep things running at home, and encourage their partners to serve — your contribution is just as vital. We couldn’t do what we do without you.

Damaging winds developing over parts of southeast NSW and southern ACT.

Weather situation
A strong northwesterly flow will develop during early this morning ahead of a cold front that will sweep over southern parts of the state during the day. Winds will tend westerly during this evening in the wake of the front.

For parts of the BLUE MOUNTAINS, SNOWY MOUNTAINS and southern parts of the ACT: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are forecast to develop around sunrise today. For alpine areas above 1900 metres DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h are possible from the early morning.
For the ILLAWARRA, SOUTH COAST and northern parts of the COASTAL RANGES: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are forecast to develop from the late morning.
BLIZZARD conditions are possible over alpine areas above 1900 metres during from mid afternoon today until early evening. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.
Winds are expected to ease across much of the warning area during late this afternoon and evening, though damaging winds may redevelop overnight in parts of the Snowy Mountains and South Coast Ranges and continue into Sunday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Katoomba, Kiama and Ulladulla.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.

Damaging winds over alpine areas today, extending broadly across eastern NSW on Monday.

Weather Situation: North to northwesterly winds will strengthen on Sunday ahead of a cold front forecast to cross NSW later on Sunday. Vigorous west to northwesterly winds will follow on Monday as a low pressure system moves into Bass Strait, extending gusty conditions broadly over the Great Dividing Range, the Hunter Valley and elevated terrain over eastern New South Wales.

For SNOWY MOUNTAINS above 1500 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely during Sunday, easing later on Monday.

For ALPINE AREAS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 125 km/h are likely during Sunday, easing during Monday morning.

For the GREAT DIVIDING RANGE broadly: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from Monday morning, becoming more likely during Monday afternoon, then gradually easing from early Tuesday morning.

For the HUNTER VALLEY, including NEWCASTLE: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are likely during Monday afternoon, easing later on Monday evening.

Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Armidale, Goulburn, Scone, Tenterfield, Katoomba, Cooma, Cessnock, Maitland, Perisher Valley and Thredbo Top Station.

It is with great sadness that NSW SES - Braidwood Unit acknowledges the unexpected passing of fellow emergency services volunteer, Irene, from our local area this morning.

For more than 20 years, Irene dedicated her time to serving the Windellama community as a member of NSW SES Windellama Unit and as a First Responder. Her commitment to helping others and her service to the community will not be forgotten.

On behalf of everyone at Braidwood we extend our heartfelt condolences to Irene’s family, friends and all members of Windellama SES during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with you all.

A service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held at Craig’s Hill Crematorium on Thursday, 6 August, at 11:00 am.

Rest peacefully, Irene. Thank you for your years of selfless service to our community. You will be sadly missed. ❤️

Don't Forget today is Test Day

Australia's new national warning system, AusAlert, will be tested across the country at:

If you have a compatible mobile phone, tablet or smart watch, you may receive a test alert. Your device may vibrate and play a loud, siren-like sound for around 10 seconds – even if it is set to silent or Do Not Disturb.

⚠️ AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.
It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.
‼️ On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.
The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)
The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.
If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.
As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

The NSW SES - Braidwood Unit extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the members of the NSW SES Wyong Unit, and to Matt’s family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The passing of one of our own is felt deeply across the entire NSW SES family. Matt’s commitment to serving his community and helping others will not be forgotten, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is grieving. We hope that the love, support and strength of the SES family brings some comfort in the days and weeks ahead.
His passion was always his colleagues and community above himself. He was such a great person we thank Matt for his service, his dedication and his contribution to our communities.

It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our Unit Commander, Matt le Clercq.

Matt was an exceptional leader whose dedication, compassion, and tireless commitment to protecting our community inspired everyone around him.

His leadership helped shape our unit into more than just a team. Wyong Unit became a place where people felt safe, supported, and part of a family.

Matt's impact on our members, our community, and the SES will be felt for many years to come. His legacy lives on through the people he mentored, the friendships he built, and the countless lives he touched through his service.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Matt's family, friends, and fellow SES members during this incredibly difficult time.

NSW SES - Braidwood Unit were requested to support police rescue for land search for a missing person down near Windellama, over the 2 days we mobilized 12 SES vehicles and 27 members from the area. We worked in tandem with RFS in an extensive line search, navigating a considerable amount of difficult terrain with multiple items found. Leveraging helicopter, police dogs and other resources, we ultimately found the missing person, albeit with a heartbreaking outcome.

The Goulburn unit has demonstrated remarkable resilience over the past 2 days. Requested to support police rescue for land search for a missing person down near Windellama, over the 2 days we mobilized 12 SES vehicles and 33 members from the area. We worked in tandem with RFS in an extensive line search, navigating a considerable amount of difficult terrain with multiple items found. Leveraging helicopter, police dogs and other resources, we ultimately found the missing person, albeit with a heartbreaking outcome.
Upon returning to the Goulburn area, we received another request to assist an ambulance stuck in mud in Bigga, with a 🚁 on its way. Our crew didnt hesitate to support the ambulance service, even though they had been walking all day. Equipped with 4x4 gear, they successfully freed the vehicle and got it back on the road, allowing it to continue serving the community. We are proud to provide aid to anyone in need, regardless of the name Goulburn on the vehicle we will go where needed.

👏We would like to express our appreciation to the volunteers who generously gave up their time to support their community over the 2 days and their ongoing dedication.👏
