Meals on Wheels Queensland

Meals on Wheels Queensland Seasoned with Care. Meals on Wheels has had a place in the hearts and homes of Australians for more than 70 years.

For 70 years, Meals on Wheels has been part of Queensland communities, delivering meals, care, and connection to support independence at home. Helping frail older people and younger people with a disability and their carers stay in their homes where most are happiest, is at the heart of what we do. Meals on Wheels provides meals to suit a client's personal requirements and can accommodate special

dietary needs and taste preferences. Everyday a friendly smile, a chat, a nutritious meal and knowing someone will drop by to say hello, changes the lives of many Australians and it's not just the clients who value this contact. Ask any of the 7,000 Queensland volunteers and they will tell you reaching out and making a difference in somebody else's day, makes theirs. Volunteers fill many roles from being drivers, delivering meals into people's homes, assisting in community kitchens or in transportation of clients to a community centre to enjoy a meal along with other social activities. Others may be able to provide office skills helping set up databases, writing newsletters, or preparing promotional flyers for events. No matter what an individual can offer, every bit of help adds to a happier and healthier community. While many retirees are active in our formidable volunteer family - and 'family' is what it becomes - the face of volunteering is as diverse as our clients. We have teenagers keen to do something for others, families who enjoy the focus of sharing a meaningful activity together, and business people who realise there is life outside the office. Chatting about local issues or discussing the latest book release may not be part of a volunteer's job description, but for a client that has very few visitors, it means a lot.

There is nothing better than seeing community spirit in action, and the team at Stafford & District Meals on Wheels have absolutely nailed it with this one. 🤝

They’ve been teaming up with The Community Place Stafford to help out with a fantastic program called "Meals 4 Mates." Funded by Health and Wellbeing Queensland, the whole idea is to bring older local blokes together to connect over good food, nutrition, and a bit of a laugh in the kitchen.

We are constantly incredibly proud of the ways our local services across Queensland go above and beyond for their communities. This is exactly what it’s all about.

Huge congratulations to Chef Marty, Stafford Meals on Wheels, and everyone involved in making this happen! 💚

In 2023, Lissa was admitted to the hospital with severe malnutrition. No support. Terribly ill. Spiralling in total isolation.

Let that sink in. In our own backyard, a neighbour was starving because she was entirely on her own.

Then, a knock on the door changed everything. Meals on Wheels didn’t just deliver a hot, home-cooked meal to her doorstep: they brought a community. They brought life back.

"I don’t just ‘get meals’," Lissa says. "I have a community around me now. We chat, have a laugh... All very good things that have improved my life and I am hugely grateful for that after so long on my own."

Our Community Hardship Fund is the difference between a vulnerable Queenslander starving in isolation or thriving at home.

Stand up for Queenslanders like Lissa. Make your powerful, tax-deductible EOFY gift today.

Across Queensland, more people are falling through the cracks. Whether they are ineligible for government funding, escaping domestic violence, or recovering from hospital without support, the risk of food insecurity is real. Not all heroes wear capes... but it turns out they do wear socks! 🧦✨

We are absolutely thrilled to see one of our very own Stafford & District Meals on Wheels volunteers featured in Volunteering Queensland's brand-new 'Heroes Wear Socks' campaign video! 🚙💨

Every single day across Queensland, ordinary people are making an extraordinary impact in their local communities. Our volunteers might not think of themselves as heroes, but to the clients they visit and the teams they work with, they are exactly that.

🎥 Hit play to watch the video and spot a familiar face, and see how everyday volunteer heroes are keeping our communities connected!

Generations of Generosity at Shailer Park! 🥳

Yesterday, the Shailer Park Meals on Wheels community gathered at the KP Centre to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone: 30 incredible years of dedicated service.

While the winter rain fell steadily outside, it did nothing to dampen the warmth, laughter, and community spirit indoors. From a beautiful morning tea spread to a celebratory cake-cutting with President Carol Hampson, Vice President Diane Johnson, and local dignitaries Mick de Brenni, Miriam Stemp Division 10 Councillor - Dedicated to the Community of Logan, and Darren Power - Former Mayor of Logan City, it was a day to remember.

The day also took an energetic turn with The Push-Up Challenge, raising awareness for mental health. Mick de Brenni MP bravely went head-to-head with one of our beloved volunteers, Barry, in a friendly showdown. 🥇💪

Moments like these remind us that Meals on Wheels is about so much more than just a meal; it’s about connection, joy, and community. Congratulations to the Shailer Park team on 30 years of nourishing and strengthening the region! 💛

Planning for the future is just as important as delivering for today. 🍽

Recently, Logan West Meals on Wheels welcomed Leeanne Enoch MP, Tim Frazer - Councillor Division 7, Councillor Linus Power and representatives from Logan City Council's Community Facilities team to discuss the potential for a new facility to support the service into the future.

As demand for Meals on Wheels continues to grow, having the right infrastructure in place will help ensure Logan West Meals on Wheels can continue providing nutritious meals, social connection and wellbeing support to local residents for years to come.

Thank you to everyone involved in these important conversations and for recognising the value of community services that help people remain independent, connected and cared for at home. 💚

🚗 Cairns Meals on Wheels has proudly unveiled two new vehicles, made possible through the generous support of the Mills Family Foundation.

This meaningful contribution continues a deeply rooted family connection to Meals on Wheels in Cairns. Founding volunteer Vera Woodward helped establish the service more than five decades ago, laying the foundations for the care and connection the organisation continues to provide today.

That legacy lives on through her daughter, Anne Mills, and family members David Mills and Zoe Mills, whose support has helped bring these vehicles into service.

The new fleet will strengthen meal deliveries, daily operations, and vital wellbeing checks for clients across the Cairns community.

A powerful reminder that community care is built on generations of generosity 💙

Imagine having to choose between turning on the heater or eating dinner.

For many vulnerable Queenslanders, this isn't a hypothetical scenario; it is a daily reality. Rising living costs are forcing our seniors to make heart-wrenching trade-offs, prioritising utility bills over basic nutrition.

That’s where our Community Hardship Fund steps in. It ensures that when a client falls on tough times, their meals don't stop.

With June 30 approaching, it is the perfect time to make a tax-deductible impact right here in Queensland.

Stronger together. 💙

Last week, Meals on Wheels volunteers, staff, leaders and supporters from every corner of the country gathered in Adelaide for the 2026 Meals on Wheels Australia National Conference.

Over three inspiring days, we explored new ideas, shared practical solutions, challenged our thinking and celebrated what makes Meals on Wheels so much more than a meal delivery service.

From conversations about the future of aged care and volunteering to innovations that strengthen connection and wellbeing, one message echoed throughout the conference: when communities come together, everyone benefits.

Queensland Day is a celebration of the people who make our state great, and we think Catherine Lamb is a wonderful example. 💙

A dedicated volunteer with Ashgrove Meals on Wheels, Catherine was recently featured as part of the Queensland Day celebrations, sharing what inspires her to give back.

"It’s about the simple things – how good you feel doing something good, and how much it means to the person on the other end."

Through her kindness, generosity and commitment to others, Catherine helps deliver more than a meal. She helps deliver connection, care and a friendly face to older Queenslanders.

🤝 Thank you, Catherine, for everything you do. Queensland is stronger because of volunteers like you.
