Reminder: Have your say on glass recycling in Alpine Shire! ⏰

There’s still time to complete our glass recycling survey, and we want to hear from as many residents as possible.

From 1 July 2027, new State Government rules mean glass won’t be allowed in household recycling bins. What comes next for Alpine Shire depends on what works best for our community, and your feedback will help shape that.

Your input will help Council:
✅ Understand how you currently manage glass
✅ Explore whether local drop‑off points could work
✅ Determine if a kerbside glass bin is needed

This is about finding a solution that suits Alpine Shire and making sure your voice is part of the conversation.

At last week's ordinary council meeting, Council adopted Amendment C65alpi with changes made after the public exhibition period held between September and October 2025. 📝📣

The amendment seeks to implement the recommendations of the Alpine Planning Scheme Review, which was completed by our team in 2023.

The amendment will now be submitted to the Alpine Planning Scheme to the Minister for Planning for approval.

At last week's council meeting, Councillors determined that there is a sufficient number of dump points for the number of RV users visiting our region. 🚐🚽

A dump point is a designated facility for RV users to dispose of black water, known as toilet waste, and grey water, known as sink or shower waste, into town sewerage systems.

RV users wanting to dispose of their waste for free can do so at our free dump point in Dinner Plain.

Otherwise, a number of caravan parks across Alpine Shire offer dump points to non-guests for $5.

Find a list of available dump points online on our website: https://www.alpineshire.vic.gov.au/residents-ratepayers/waste-recycling/dump-points

After years of advocacy (and plenty of patience from the community), Tawonga South’s new public toilets in the town’s main business area are moving ahead - and we’d love your input on the site design. 🚻

Take a look at the site layout, along with the two design options for the amenities, and let us know what you think - including any ideas to make the space even better.

We know this project has been a long time coming, and this is your chance to help get it right.

The survey will close on Sunday, 28 June 2026.

Those who have visited the Kiewa River Trail recently will have seen the works starting for our new amenity! 💧🚽

Ausnet started working on the electrical connection upgrade this week, which is a good step in the right direction. ⚡

While we hoped to have the amenity open by the end of May, preliminary works has unearthed some asbestos in the soil, which has now been removed and appropriately marked by a licensed asbestos removalist.

What this means is that it's going to take a little more time to get these works underway.

🚧 In the meantime, there has been a temporary detour put in place along the trail to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.

We ask that you please pay attention to the signage and mind your step on uneven ground.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to being able to provide an update soon!

Tiny but mighty! Meet T***s, our sassy, social girl with mesmerising eyes. 👀😸

T***s is confident, snuggly, and loves to be around people. If she's not busily trying to find every nook and cranny in your home, she'll likely be curled up with a milk moustache. 🥛

T***s is desexed and approximately eight to ten years old. She is best being the only queen in her kingdom, so will need to be in a single-cat household.

Meet T***s online at our Animal Hub: https://engage.alpineshire.vic.gov.au/community-hubs/animal-hub

If you're not able to adopt, but can provide T***s with a temporary foster home, please get in touch.

If you're ready to meet this gorgeous girl, organise a meet and greet with our Local Laws team by emailing [email protected] or calling (03) 5755 0555.

All applications will be assessed for suitability. Please remember that a new pet is not for now, but forever. No holds will be taken over the phone or on social media.

Libraries are more than a place for books - they’re a place for everyone. 👋📚👩‍💻🖌

They’re where stories come to life, where kids discover new worlds, where people can connect with one other, and where you can even access Council services close to home.

Now we’re planning for the future, and we’d love your help. 💬

Our draft Library Services Plan 2026–2030 is now open for feedback. It sets out how we’ll continue delivering great library services across Alpine Shire over the next four years, with a focus on what matters most to our community.

Our volunteers are the heart of our sporting reserves across Alpine Shire, working tirelessly to ensure that these spaces are accessible and available for all the different people that use them. ⛳🏉🛹

This is why we've developed our draft Sporting Reserves Maintenance Support Policy 2026, to ensure that our volunteer committees are getting the support they need.

We have developed our draft policy together with the committees that will be impacted over the last six months, and it's now your turn to have your say.

Review our draft policy and provide feedback either:
