Art at Partridge is this weekend!

Join us this weekend (Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August) between 11am to 4pm and explore works by 70 emerging and established South Australian artists across painting, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, photography and media art.

Alongside stunning visual art, we’ll have a great lineup of local musicians adding to the atmosphere with chilled sets across both days.

At tonight’s Council meeting, elected members endorsed a response to the State Government’s consultation on Personal Mobility Devices (including e-scooters) and e-bike laws.

Over the past 12 months, Council has recorded community reports and concerns about the use of these devices across Holdfast Bay.

While Council supports these devices as part of a more sustainable transport mix that can help reduce car dependency and traffic congestion, the feedback from our community has been clear: safety is the priority.

Residents have raised concerns about dangerous riding, excessive speeds, near misses and illegal or modified devices on roads and shared paths.

As part of its response, Council will ask the State Government to consider a legislative mechanism that could allow e-bikes and e-scooters to be prohibited on the Coast Park shared path between The Broadway, Glenelg and Kingston Park.

While councils cannot enforce rider behaviour or speed limits, we are also advocating for regular patrols and targeted enforcement along Holdfast Bay’s Coast Park during the 2026–27 summer period.

Our goal is simple: keeping our paths safe and welcoming for everyone.

When was the last time you had a really good belly laugh? 😂

Head to Brighton Library’s courtyard on the first Wednesday of every month and you’ll hear plenty. It’s a far cry from the stereotype of libraries as quiet places. 📚

For almost a year, volunteer Annie Harvey has been leading the Library Laughter Club there, a free monthly session using laughter therapy to boost wellbeing.

“We used to say kids laugh 300 times a day and adults about 15,” Annie says. “But I don’t think even kids laugh that much nowadays, unfortunately.” Through her sessions, she hopes to help change that.

About 20 people of all ages regularly attend the Brighton sessions. It’s one of only a handful of laughter clubs in South Australia – and one of just two based in a library.

🕊️ For 172 years, Ada Ellen – the baby daughter of Glenelg’s first mayor – was remembered only by a small marble cross, while her sister Annie Ellen had no memorial. 🤍

A new granite plaque at St Jude’s Cemetery now honours both sisters. Installed as the Brighton Historical Society’s final project before disbanding, the memorial honours both Ada and Annie, who lived for just two and a half months.

The girls were the daughters of Glenelg’s first mayor, Richard Bowen Colley, and his wife, Isabella.

Former Brighton Historical Society president Jill Golley (pictured), who led the organisation for about 30 years, said she was delighted to see the project come to fruition.

Representatives from the Society, the Holdfast Bay History Centre and Council gathered for the official unveiling today.

Council is also currently undertaking improvements at St Jude’s Cemetery and North Brighton Cemetery, including more accessible paths, improved road access, additional seating and landscaping, while preserving the heritage of both sites.
