There is something pretty special about people choosing to give up their Sunday to help people they may never see again.
That was the room we had at our Seniors of Brisbane – Your Future, Your Way event on Sunday 16th August.
KK and I were thanked so many times for bringing the event, the experts and the conversations together, but honestly, the gift came from everyone in that room.
Our panelists gave their time and knowledge.
Our exhibitors gave their time to answer questions, listen and help.
Our attendees gave us their trust and shared some very personal questions and experiences.
And together, we talked about things that aren't always easy to talk about.
Having your documents in order. Your home. Your Will. Your wishes. Your funeral. The conversations families often put off until suddenly they can't.
There is such a gift in having these things in place. Knowing what you want, having the conversations and giving the people you love one less thing to navigate when life gets hard.
A very special thank you to our co-host @ George Harnett Metropolitan Funerals for aligning with us and sharing our vision, to Souths Logan Magpies for providing such a welcoming space, and to Australian Over 50s Living & Lifestyle Guidebook for supporting us for the day. The empathy, generosity and genuine care shown by everyone involved reinforced something we talk about at SALT all the time... behind these businesses are real people who genuinely care about getting things right for seniors and their families.
We have this slightly crazy goal of helping one million seniors.
We know we will never sit in the loungerooms of most of them.
But our SALT members, partners, panelists, advocates and supporters will.
And knowing there are trusted people out there giving their time, sharing their knowledge and helping us shine a spotlight on the support available...
Well, that's a pretty incredible gift.
