Book 📚 drop/review. I just finished this true story of Australian of the year in 2015, “ Rosie Batty-a mother’s story”. Rosie’s son, Luke, was killed by his father in 2014 as a result of a long history of family violence and mental health issues. This story gives a great insight into the complexity of these issues, and the amazing tenacity of Rosie who is doing her very best to raise awareness and prevent this ongoing destructive cycle. Confronting read, but we’ll worth it 👌🏽
It’s also loveLy that I picked this book up from an op shop at Windsor, and it has a sticker on it stating it was from Kate Street Library, so recycling of books is working ♻️✅😊
May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month (DFVP Month) in Queensland.
DFVP Month is an opportunity to say Not now, not ever. Together and add your voice to those calling for an end to violence in the home. A collective stand against violence is more important than ever during these challenging times. While the necessary action to limit the spread of COVID-19 has been effective, the associated challenges including social isolation with perpetrators, possible loss of employment and financial pressures can combine to exacerbate the risk for people experiencing abuse.
Visit www.qld.gov.au/notnownotevertogether to access resources and find out how you can get involved in the virtual events and activities taking place during DFVP Month.
