Our National Campaign Organiser Jude has been running LEAN campaign and organising Skill Labs across the country for the last month, to help grow and strengthen our LEAN National community. And optimise the impact of our campaign.

After training weekends in Tasmania and Victoria, yesterday the Skill Lab program reached the ACT. Our National Secretary Janaline, who is based in the ACT, also joined this wonderful weekend session. The weekend was capped off with a fun social event attended by ACT Environment Minister Susan Orr and Minister Andrew Leigh MP.

We were thrilled to see both long‑standing and new LEAN and Labor members participating and contributing to plans to grow and strengthen
LEAN’s critical work. Additional training sessions are planned for NSW, Queensland and other states in the coming weeks.

If you would like to attend training and join LEAN please get in touch!

Today's destination absolutely lived up to its name - it was glorious!

LEAN and MBYL took to the mountains to really appreciate why it is we're committed to protecting nature and taking real action on climate change.

We discussed nature laws, climate justice, justice for First Nations People, unfair diesel rebates, and holding reckless state governments to account.

Massive thanks to these legends who made today inclusive, empowering and loads of fun.

If you want to join us for our next nature walk, or have a spot in mind you want to share, sign up at the link in our bio, or send us a DM.

RSVP to join LEAN and MBYL at 10am this Sunday at Mt Glorious!

We'll be exploring the best of D'Aguilar National Park up at Mt Glorious.

Along the way, learn about LEANs' latest campaign to remove billions in fossil subsidies from Australia's biggest emitters.

A great article about how environmental upgrade agreements worked for low income households.

Council staff said human resources and time are essential, with one noting: ‘We have to go through a fair amount of information to explain how solar works.’

Renew: 'CSIRO’s latest annual GenCost report has revealed fresh plunges in big battery costs and a welcome dip in the cost of onshore wind, while also confirming – for the seventh year in a row – that a mix of firmed renewables is the cheapest way forward for Australia’s electricity system.

CSIRO, Australia’s premier science agency, and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), have collaborated on the annual GenCost report since 2018, when the first report was produced after being commissioned by the then Coalition government.

It was designed as an effort to deliver a “policy-neutral and technology-agnostic assessment” of cost data for new-build generation and storage technologies to underpin electricity system modelling and planning. Its conclusions have been consistent – renewables and storage are the lowest option.'

LEAN has been front and centre across state conference with our members backing in and pushing for nature and climate action.

Here's some highlights!

1. Murray, Nita, and Matt dropped by the LEAN stall to acknowledge the tireless activism of LEAN members who were themselves very happy to thank our federal Labor team for delivering Nature Laws with Teeth and strong emissions targets.

2. Mr 50 Fares, although more popular with LEAN for protecting the Channel country from fossil fuels, legislating renewable energy and emissings targets, being Miles better for the Reef, and helping get Queensland LEAN off the ground, Steven Miles with our stall crew.

3. Queensland LEAN Convenor Josh Lyons opening our panel discussion: Short Circuit in the Sunshine State

4. Panellists Lance, Peter, Holly, and Sean sharing how we we've beat back LNP governments addicted to coal and fixed on asset sales before and how we'll do it again. Lance reminded us that last time David Crisafulli was in government they sacked workers at Swanbank power station and prepared to sell it off. Thanks to Labor, swanbank is now becoming a clean energy hub. Holly reminded us why climate action matters and that we can have hope - if we act.

5. Full house ready to fight back against the Crisafulli LNP and deliver a future where the special places we take our little ones and share time with mates will be protected.

6. Murray and Josh celebrating finally passing our stronger nature laws and delivering an EPA. We're especially proud that our national LEAN team was successful in negotiating no exemptions for regional forestry agreements and a $300m industry package to support workers.

7. Murray addressing the conference and talking about a future made in Australia, with good jobs in clean industries, a future powered by renewables no longer stuck in red tape, and a natural environment protected by strong laws and an independent EPA.

Finally, it's time.

Australia finally has strong laws to protect nature.

Today Federal Labor Environment Minister Murray Watt successfully passed his reforms to John Howard's failed Environment laws.

Before the groundswell of loud voices in recent years, before the Samuels review, LEAN stood up and ran a grassroots campaign to rewrite our national nature laws to do someone thing radical: protect nature.

Almost 10 years later, we have won!

Thanks to the internal pressure of our LEAN Champions backing in thousands of LEAN members, we've not only passed Murray's laws, but closed loopholes for forestry and removed fossil fuels from fast track approvals.

Without powerful champions like Renee Coffey MP sitting in the federal parliament these laws faced the same fate as previous failed attempts.

Instead, nature now faces a fighting chance.

Now we can turn the tide, protect what's left, and begin to restore what's been lost.

There is still much to be done, especially here in Queensland where our Crisafulli LNP Government is doing everything they can to undermine nature.

But, for now, to LEAN members, friends, Champions and supporters across Queensland: THANK YOU!

It's time to celebrate this monumental win for nature. You've earned it!

Sussan Ley has taken the side of climate deniers and fossil fuel donors and abandoned the Liberal Party's commitment to Net Zero

The Liberals are meant to be the sensible partner in the federal coalition but they've jumped into a burning bed with Matt Canavan, Barnaby Joyce, and the like of Gina Rinehart.

Sussan has failed the biggest test of her credibility as a leader.

The Liberals in Canberra are just like David Crisafullis LNP in Queensland, not fit to govern, and out of touch with reality.

Any last shred of credibility Sussan Ley and the Liberals had has just gone up in flames.
