Redlands Move Beyond Coal

Redlands Move Beyond Coal This is the Redlands Move Beyond Coal group. Join us and help shift Australian into a climate safe future beyond coal! Australia has a big coal problem.

Australia is one of the world’s largest exporters of coal – the number one cause of climate change. Right now, corporations are planning to dig more new coal projects in Australia than anywhere else on the planet. It doesn't matter where Australia's coal is burned, people everywhere are feeling the climate impacts here and now. We have a responsibility to act. People power is the solution. We can

still protect a liveable world – but we need to act NOW. Join our Redlands Move Beyond Coal team to help make this shift happen in our own local community with local community action.

Want to take action but are time poor? Join the fortnightly Hour of Power!

Each fortnight on Thursday 6-7pm AEST a crew from across Australia zoom in and do what they can to stop funding for Whitehaven Coal. Whitehaven Coal currently have 6 new or expanded coal projects that they are starting or want to start in the coming year. Many of these projects already have all the approvals they need to get started, BUT, Whitehaven Coal don't have the money.

Together, the campaign will increase the cost of business for Whitehaven Coal, and ensure they are less likely to have the cash they need to dig new climate-wrecking coal projects.

Have you heard the news about Labor reneging on their promise to reform our national environmental laws? There are almost 30 new coal and gas projects that will likely be approved under the current, weak environment laws. That’s why the mining lobby doesn’t want the laws changed.

We will be occupying the office of Jim Chalmers - the Federal Treasurer - to demand he use his power as Treasurer to fund our future and not climate wrecking coal and gas projects!
WHEN: Thursday 9th May, 11am
WHERE: Logan Central Plaza: 38/38-74 Wembley Rd, Logan Central QLD 4114
This is part of Rise Up - 12 Days of Action across the country. It’s being hosted by Move Beyond Coal Brisbane and is an accessible event at the Treasurer’s office in Logan.
RSVP is essential so you can be sent the meeting point and we know how you want to be involved:

School students are STRIKING on 17 Nov and they need your support! ✊
Students will walk out of their classrooms, to the office of their local MP, and demand the Government away from the corporations profiting from new coal and gas projects.
Join an action near you to demand the Labor Government take serious climate action, starting with no new coal and gas projects.

Despite the devastating impacts on climate disasters, such as bushfires, floods and droughts, across the country and the world, disproportionately impacting our rural and regional communities, first nations communities and our Pacific Island neighbours, Labor has continued to listen to their fossil....

Next week Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is headed to the Pacific Islands Forum.

Pacific people least responsible for the climate crisis keep losing their livelihoods, homes including their cultural and spiritual connection to land and seas. They are being displaced and keep having to rebuild with little or no resources. But the people are not giving up, they are fighting. ✊

Will the PM support by signing the for a Just Transition to a Fossil Fuel Free Pacific? 🌏
It’s time for Australian community members to stand in solidarity with the Pacific and call for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to act on Pacific climate justice!

With the Living Wonders legal challenge lost, two massive new coal projects are on the brink of approval by the Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek. The ABC has obtained legal documents suggesting the Labor government is likely to approve two new climate wrecking coal mines at the heart of the Environmental Justice Australia and Environment Council of Central Queensland legal cases.
MACH energy’s Mount Pleasant coal mine expansion and Whitehaven Coal’s Narrabri coal mine expansion would have devastating impacts on our climate.

Take action! Tell Labor they must stop approving new coal and gas NOW: https://pulse.ly/2052x5c0uc

This December, as the world gathers for the global climate talks, communities right across the country will rise to sound the alarm on Labor’s ongoing support for coal and gas billionaires. We will stand with Pacific leaders as they call on the Australian Government to step up and back no new fossil fuels, a phase out plan, and supporting loss and damages. Come along to this webinar with Redlands Move Beyond Coal volunteers to learn how we can host or join an action as part of the national week of action in December.

Together we can solve Australia's biggest contribution to the climate crisis - join the movement!
