HUGE WINS FOR OUR COMMUNITY AT ALP NATIONAL CONFERENCE! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of activists and delegates inside the Australian Rainbow Labor Network (ARLN), we have secured critical platform amendments and conference resolutions to protect, support, and uplift LGBTIQ+ Australians nationwide!

Here is a look at what we fought for and WON:

✨ Protecting Intersex Australians: Explicit support for the rights of intersex people to have bodily autonomy and agency in medical settings, ensuring effective oversight of clinical practices in consultation with the intersex community.

🏥 Trans & Gender Diverse Healthcare: Committing Labor to progress community-informed healthcare guidelines and expand Medicare-supported healthcare and mental health access free from discrimination.

🏛️ Preserving Our History: Recognizing our community's living history, knowledge, and lore, with commitments to preserve and showcase LGBTIQ+ oral histories through national cultural institutions.

🛡️ Workplace & Anti-Discrimination Protections: Addressing exemptions to anti-discrimination laws that unfairly target LGBTIQ+ workers (including in faith-based settings), tackling hate crimes, and defending social cohesion against hate speech.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Recognising LGBTIQ+ Families: Explicitly recognising LGBTIQ+ families and supporting all families to care for their children with equal access to services.

📊 Census Inclusion: Continuing crucial work with the ABS to ensure intersex, sex-diverse, and gender-diverse Australians are properly counted and included in future Censuses.

Every single one of these policy shifts is a step toward a safer, fairer, and more equal Australia. A massive thank you to all the delegates, activists, and allies who made these wins possible!

On the weekend we held our annual Policy Conference. This important day saw RLQ activists and members come together to pass motions and amendments to both the State and National platforms of the Australian Labor Party.

In the year since our last conference we have seen attacks on our LGBTIQ+ community from within the wider community but also from within parliament.

These attacks are designed to distract people from the real issues impacting the lives of LGBTIQ+ people.

Inside Labor we fight for equality, fairness and the rights of all people including our LGBTIQ+ community to live a good life. Working with our Labor MP’s, union and party allies and members of our community we can continue the vital policy work to protect and promote the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Special thanks to the fabulous member for Griffith who came and addressed our conference in solidarity.

Today, we stand against homophobia, biphobia, intersex discrimination, and transphobia. While we celebrate how far we’ve come, IDAHOBIT is also a reminder that the fight for equality is far from over— and our vigiliance is needed right here in Queensland.

Lately, we’ve seen a rise in toxic, q***rphobic commentary imported straight from the US and other countries. But let’s be clear: we cannot let that hateful rhetoric take root in our state.

Fighting back means defending the rights, dignity, and healthcare of our community. Right now, that means standing up for trans kids and protecting their access to life-saving gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers. Medical decisions belong to youth, their families, and their doctors—not conservative politicians playing culture war games.

Rainbow Labor will always fight to keep Queensland a safe, inclusive, and supportive place for every member of our rainbow family.

Today and every day, we stand with our trans youth, intersex children, and any parts of our q***r community experiencing bigotry. 💖

Last night, Come To Daddy Brisbane in West End was the target of a homophobic incident, with flag bunting outside the venue damaged.

This isn’t the kind of community we believe in. We stand together, support one another, and respond with strength and pride.

Thank you to Renee Coffey MP for stepping up in solidarity and helping replace the flags and bunting.

Rainbow Labor QLD will continue to advocate for stronger protections for LGBTQIA+ people across Queensland, and to stand with our community every step of the way.

Rainbow Labor members had an opportunity today to organise and discuss the future of our party today.

Our unified goal was simple:
💜💛continue building momentum to protect intersex children
🤝Restore puberty blocker access for trans youth; and
🏥ensure that healthcare is delivered equally for all members of our community.

This years agenda is focused on fighting for fairness and equality.

Our members gave up their Saturday to share stories, focus on the issues and celebrate q***r joy.

Nothing about us without us, together we’ll continue to build a better community for us all.

Every year on March 31st, our community comes together to mark International Transgender Day of Awareness.

While other days on the calendar are rightfully set aside for mourning and remembrance, TDOV was created specifically to celebrate the living.

We see you. We celebrate you. And we are so proud to stand with you.

But we know that true visibility is not a substitute for safety, and celebration cannot happen when those in power do not listen to our most vulnerable communities.

To truly honor our trans communities and comrades, we must fiercely protect them from the systemic attacks occurring in our own state.

Here is how we take the load off the trans community and fight back together:

1. Be visibly supportive
2. Speak out to your local representatives, MPs and leaders
3. Elevate trans voices and educate our local communities

Let’s build a Queensland where every young person—no matter their gender identity—has the right to safe, affirming, and accessible healthcare.
