The invasive freshwater gold clam has been found in Oxley Creek – a new location for this pest.‼️

The discovery was made during recent surveys by Queensland Environment.

Freshwater gold clams spread quickly and can harm Queensland waterways and ecosystems.

Whether you’re an angler, kayaker or enjoy our rivers, you can help slow its spread.

Make sure you check, clean and dry your gear after using it in the water.

It’s not too late to have your say on Queensland's Biosecurity Regulation. ‼️🗣️

The Queensland Government is reviewing the Biosecurity Regulation 2016.

The regulation is 10 years old, and we want to make sure it is still fit-for-purpose. This ‘sunset review’ will look for areas that need to be updated.

Please encourage your stakeholders to provide their input to make sure an updated regulation keeps protecting Queensland’s industries, communities and environment from biosecurity threats.

Small but mighty! 🐝

Bees play a vital role in Queensland’s food production, supporting nearly two-thirds of Australian agricultural output through pollination that helps fruit, vegetables and many of the crops that feed us thrive.

Their work extends well beyond the farm gate, supporting biodiversity by helping plants reproduce and maintain healthy populations, and strengthening the ecosystems that underpin our natural environment.

This World Bee Day, we recognise the important contribution of bees and the beekeepers, growers and producers who help support their role in our food system.

Healthy bees depend on strong biosecurity to keep pollination systems thriving.

Attention potato growers! 🚨🥔

Movement restrictions remain in place to protect Queensland’s potato industry from potato mop-top virus (PMTV), which remains a serious biosecurity threat affecting potato crops.

PMTV carriers cannot be moved into Queensland unless they come from a certified pest-free area or comply with our movement control order.

This includes:
🥔 potato, plants and potato propagating material, such as seed potatoes
🥔 soil associated with potato production or propagation
🥔 machinery and equipment used in growing, harvesting, processing or packing potatoes.

Exemptions apply for ware potatoes (human consumption), processing potatoes and processed material of the common potato e.g. frozen potatoes/chips.

Sweet potato is not a carrier of PMTV.

Are you buying or moving a boat? 🛥️ 🔍 🦪

Keep an eye out for the invasive black scar oyster, which was recently found in Townsville. Previous detection sites include waters from Mission Beach to Weipa.

These marine pests are broadcast spawners – releasing millions of eggs at a time. They’re highly efficient invaders and can damage our marine ecosystems.

Before moving your vessel:
✔️ inspect your hull for hitchhikers
✔️ clean your boat or pontoon thoroughly
✔️ report anything suspicious to us.
