Taiwan's objective: building safe, resilient high-tech supply chains with more democratic partners🤝

MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung recently attended the 2026 Trusted Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership Forum at SEMICON Taiwan 2026, jointly hosted by MOFA, the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, and SEMI Taiwan. Discussion centered around two main themes: "Navigating Economic Security: Geopolitics and AI Governance" and "Taiwan as a Trusted King-Maker: Global Cooperation Frameworks and Democratic Partnerships."

In his opening address, Minister Lin stated that amid rising global geopolitical risks, Taiwan is striving to be a trusted partner in mutually beneficial cooperation. Over the past 30 years, he said, Taiwan has built the world's most advanced semiconductor ecosystem and has today become the cornerstone of the global AI revolution. Taiwan produces 90% of the world's most advanced semiconductors, he added, and plays a leading role in producing AI servers and printed circuit boards for the global market. Taiwan's semiconductor industry supports many of the world's most innovative businesses, he said, making Taiwan a key force in pushing technological progress in the AI era.

Minister Lin also witnessed the signing of an MOU between Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Lithuania Laser Association on Cooperation in Laser Technology for Heterogeneous Integration in Advanced Semiconductor Packaging during the expo. This is an important milestone for both countries to jointly strengthen democratic economic resilience based on shared values and complementary industrial strengths. Minister Lin stated that MOFA is steadfast in its support for new cooperative projects with Lithuania centered on laser technology, and that €5.6 million will be used to upgrade high-end laser equipment and to support bilateral tech R&D cooperation. This technology will then be applied to advanced semiconductor packaging. According to ITRI predictions, within two years, the sale of 15 integrated systems by domestic equipment vendors will be facilitated, with a cumulative output value of NT$500 million over 5 years.

■ Taiwan actively promotes UN participation, calls for a UN that delivers for all

The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly will open on September 8 at the UN headquarters in New York. The theme of this year’s General Debate will be “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”

MOFA Vice Minister Baushuan Ger held a special press conference on September 1 to communicate to the public the Taiwan government’s 2026 campaign and strategy for promoting Taiwan’s UN participation, highlighting:

1⃣ UNGA Resolution 2758 neither dealt with Taiwan’s sovereignty nor precluded Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the UN system. The UN should identify appropriate ways of including Taiwan’s participation in the UN system so that Taiwan can contribute its expertise and experience to help accelerate the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

2⃣ Firmly maintaining the status quo and ensuring peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan and the widely held and staunch position of the international community. It has also received extensive support among Taiwan’s democratic partners. Peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are indispensable to global security and prosperity.

3⃣ Taiwan is committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes and staunchly defending the international legal order. Any attempts or actions to disrupt the status quo across the Taiwan Strait contravene the principles enshrined in the UN Charter prohibiting the threat or use of force and requiring the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Minister Lin Chia-lung published an op-ed entitled “Restoring trust: Taiwan’s rightful place in the free world” to communicate the Taiwan government’s stance to the world. The op-ed underlines that only by following the principles set out in the UN Charter and treating every member of the international community in a fair and just manner can the UN win back the international community’s confidence.

As an important stakeholder in the international community, Taiwan stands ready to face global challenges alongside global partners, and is an indispensable and vital force in the UN’s efforts to manage transformation. The government of Taiwan once again calls on the UN system to recognize the legitimate right of the 23.5 million people of Taiwan to participate in international affairs and to promptly seek appropriate ways to include Taiwan. Only in this way can the UN truly realize its commitment to leave no one behind and being a UN that delivers for all.

MOFA strongly condemns PRC again for engaging in unilateral, provocative actions that raise tensions in South China Sea & region!

MOFA condemns in the strongest possible terms the so-called “combat readiness patrols” that the PRC’s People’s Liberation Army conducted on September 2 in airspace and waters near Minzhu Reef. The PRC’s actions interfered with routine operations of other countries’ vessels and aircraft and were therefore dangerous, irresponsible, and highly provocative.

MOFA has consistently opposed unilateral and illegal efforts by any side in the South China Sea aimed at power expansion, including gray-zone coercion, militarization, and any other behavior that undermines peace. It calls on the PRC to abide by international law, uphold the principle of peaceful dispute settlement, and respect the common desire of countries in the region for peace and stability.

Taiwan will continue to cooperate with like-minded countries and regional partners to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea, protect freedom of navigation and overflight, and ensure a free, open, peaceful, and stable international order.

✅ 查詢業者的 ABN(澳洲商業號碼)及網路評價

🔍 Think Before You Sign. Check Before You Pay.

As part of Scam Awareness Week, we remind members of the Taiwanese community in Australia to stay alert when dealing with tradespeople or businesses offering urgent services.

🚨 Be cautious if someone:

❌ Knocks on your door offering urgent repairs
❌ Pressures you to accept a “special deal” immediately
❌ Demands a large upfront payment
❌ Cannot provide licences, insurance or references

🔎 Before hiring a business:

✅ Get at least three written quotes
✅ Check their ABN and online reviews
✅ Verify their licences and insurance
✅ Ask for references
✅ Never feel pressured to make a quick decision

💡 If something doesn’t feel right, take a step back before signing or paying, and seek independent advice.

A little extra checking can help protect you from scams.
