HFQ regrets to inform it's members of the passing of Alma Jamieson.

Alma served on the HFQ board throughout the 1980s and 1990s and her contributions to the bleeding disorders community were vast and impactful.

HFQ extends it's condolences to her loved ones during this difficult time.

Her family has asked we advise our members of the details of her celebration of life.

Held on Thursday 3rd of September 2026, in the Traditional Funerals Chapel, commencing at 12pm.

📍 Townsville Regional Outreach Clinic

Last Thursday, HFQ had the pleasure of attending the Regional Outreach Clinic in Townsville, connecting with people across both the Adults and Children’s Clinics. It was lovely to meet new faces, catch up with long-standing members of our bleeding disorders community and hear people share their experiences.

It was a particularly special day as it was Nurse Jo’s last ever clinic before her retirement. There were certainly a few tears when some patients realised it was the last time they would see Jo at clinic. 💕 After so many years of caring for and supporting our community, it was a very emotional farewell.

A special thank you to Belinda Waddell, HFQ Board member and Townsville local, for helping us on the day and sharing that wonderful HFQ sense of community.

Our next Regional Outreach Clinic is Mackay on Thursday, 10 September. We look forward to seeing you there!

We’re putting together a special slideshow to celebrate Nurse Jo and her incredible contribution to our community at her Retirement Party next Friday, and we’d love your help!

If you have any photos of Jo over the years, whether they’re from clinic visits, HFQ events, camps, conferences, community activities or just special moments along the way, please send them through to us! We’d love to include as many memories as possible.

Last Sunday, we enjoyed a lovely HFQ Women’s Lunch at the Waterloo Bay Hotel. 💕

Although it was a small group, it gave us the opportunity for a more personal and relaxed chat. We shared stories about how family members were diagnosed, talked about our experiences within the bleeding disorders community, and shared ideas for future HFQ events.

It was a lovely gathering filled with great conversation and connection. Thank you to the ladies who attended the lunch... we look forward to our next one!

Our HFQ Regional Outreach Clinics continue, with our next stop in Townsville on Thursday 20th August 2026.

These visits provide a valuable opportunity to connect with members of the local bleeding disorders community, offer support, share information, and strengthen relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Come say hello and enjoy some morning tea with us!

We look forward to seeing everyone in Townsville before heading to Mackay on Thursday 10th September 2026.

Australian Story will soon air a feature on Australians with bleeding disorders who contracted hepatitis C (HCV) through infected blood products. We know this national coverage may bring up challenging emotions for our community.

HFA was contacted for comment ahead of the broadcast, and we want to share our position directly with you.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to advocating for Australians who acquired a blood-borne virus through infected blood products. While progress has been made overseas, our Australian community are still waiting for the support and acknowledgement. We are actively engaging with the Australian Government to secure the recognition and support our community has earned and deserves.

☀️ Our HFQ team was in Cairns on Thursday 30th July for our latest Regional Outreach Clinic, and Cairns certainly turned on the sunshine for us!

It was wonderful to connect with members of the local bleeding disorders community, providing support, raising awareness, and strengthening connections with our regional members. These visits are an important way for us to stay connected and ensure our community knows we're here to help🩸

Next stop... Townsville hospital on 20th August, followed by Mackay on 10th September. We look forward to catching up with more of our regional community soon! 💙
