September is Save the Koala Month, and this year we’re doing more to support koala conservation in the wild. 🐨💚

Throughout September, every donation received at Lone Pine will go to Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), supporting their work protecting native wildlife and the habitats they depend on.

We’re also doubling our usual contribution to AWC from every koala experience, increasing it from $1 to $2 throughout September.

AWC teams work across Australia restoring habitat, managing threats such as feral animals, weeds and damaging fires, monitoring wildlife and helping threatened species recover.

So whether you book a koala experience, make a donation online or donate during your visit, you’ll be helping support conservation beyond Lone Pine.

Today we’re remembering a very special member of the Lone Pine family, our beautiful barn owl, Milo. 🤍🦉

Milo passed away recently at 18 years old due to age-related health issues. Born on 16 October 2007, she came to Lone Pine at just 10 days old and was hand-raised by our team.

Over her 18 years at Lone Pine, Milo was a true superstar of our shows and a familiar face to our visitors. Some of you may remember watching her fly, meeting her after a presentation, or getting to know her through our school holiday programs and encounter experiences.

Milo loved flying and heading out for walks in the sunshine with the Raptor team. She also loved showing off the incredible hearing barn owls are known for, using her sound training to track down the noise of a cricket playing beneath a rock.

Milo was quite the chatterbox. She loved the sound of her own voice and would happily screech away throughout the day.

With barn owls typically living around 3–4 years in the wild, we feel incredibly lucky to have shared such a long life with her.

After almost two decades at Lone Pine, Milo leaves behind so many memories and will be deeply missed by our Raptor team, the wider Lone Pine family, and the thousands of visitors who had the chance to meet her over the years.

If you have a photo, video or favourite memory of Milo, we’d love for you to share it in the comments below.

Rest easy, Milo. Thank you for 18 wonderful years. 🤍

Sound up! 🔊 Luna, our Southern hairy-nosed wombat, is coming in hot with something to say!

Southern hairy-nosed wombats are generally pretty quiet and rely heavily on scent-marking to communicate. But when they do get vocal, they can make a surprising range of sounds from rough coughs and grunts to growls and hisses.

Clearly Luna felt like being a little more vocal today. 😂

You can visit our wombats daily in our Nocturnal section. Look out for number 33 on the map!

There’s a new face at Lone Pine!

Say hello to Atticus, our young Nankeen Kestrel who joined us from Ballarat and is already making quite the impression.

At not even one year old, Atticus is confident, very chatty and currently busy learning the ropes with our Raptor team. He’s been flying to the lure each day as part of his training, building his skills and confidence.

Like other Nankeen Kestrels, Atticus might be small, but he’s an impressive hunter. These birds are well known for hovering above the ground while searching for prey, using their incredible eyesight to spot even the smallest movements below.

As for Atticus? His favourite thing is definitely insects. 🦗

We can’t wait to see Atticus take to the skies in our Free Flight Raptor Shows very soon! 💛
