From All of Us at Vera Street – Thank You!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate 20 years of the Vera Street Community Garden! Our birthday celebration was a fantastic success, with over 100 people coming together for a joyful picnic in the park.
The day was filled with smiles, laughter, and community spirit. From the kids’ activities (a big hit!) to the amazing tunes from the Basementalists who kept the crowd dancing, to the cooking demonstrations, delicious cakes, and generous servings of tea and coffee – it was truly a day to remember.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to:
Michael Berkman, MP for Maiwar – for the grant and for providing marquees and tables.
Cr Penny Wolff, Councillor for Walter Taylor Ward – for additional marquees and great prizes
Nowhere Café – for kindly donating the tea, coffee, and milk.
Otis (aged 12) – a talented local artist who donated two beautiful paintings for sale, with proceeds going to the garden.
Founding member Kelly – for sharing the story of how the Garden began, for cutting the cake, and for her ongoing inspiration.
The other original members who joined the celebrations and helped mark this special milestone.
Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology – whose grounds are home to our beloved garden.
Our dedicated Committee, Garden members, family and friends – your behind-the-scenes work and support made the day possible.
And finally: to every one of you who turned up and helped turn all our planning into a joyful, shared celebration – thank you. We feel so fortunate to be part of this amazing community.
Here’s to many more years of growing, sharing, and connecting. 🌱
With gratitude,
The Vera Street Community Garden Team
