Dive into World Oceans Day. 🌊

Today is a reminder of the shared responsibility we have to protect our oceans.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest, richest and most diverse coral reef located here in Queensland. 🐠

🤔 Did you know that ports have successfully operated in the Great Barrier Reef region for more 150 years?

North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation operates three ports within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

To protect the surrounding reef, they work closely with JCU: James Cook University, Australia on research and sustainability projects, including seagrass monitoring, water quality data collection and reef condition surveys.

Every year, they survey 30,000 hectares of seagrass and collect 4.2 million water quality records to monitor conditions at five locations in the Great Barrier Reef. 🤯

Together, this work is helping protect the Great Barrier Reef for future generations.

Power prices are dropping in regional Queensland.⚡

The Queensland Competition Authority confirmed power prices will fall by up to:

💡 6.9% for regional households
💡 8.1% for small businesses

This follows the Australian Energy Regulator's final Default Market Offer, which delivered the biggest power price drop for South East Queenslanders in over a decade.💡

That’s the Energy Roadmap doing what it was designed to do. ✅

The $200 million North West Energy Fund is now open for proposals.

Projects in and around Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek and Richmond that deliver reliable and affordable energy and support local economic development are welcome for consideration.

The fund builds upon the benefits of the transformational CopperString project which is delivering a high-voltage electricity transmission line connecting the region to the national electricity market.

Managed by QIC, the fund is a key initiative of the Queensland Energy Roadmap that is delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable power for all Queenslanders.

Concrete plans are setting in Mackay. 😉

Big things are taking shape at North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation's Port of Mackay, with the first concrete poured for its new multi-million-dollar Container Depot.

Once complete, this 1.3-hectare facility will help local industries move goods faster, cheaper and closer to home, boosting supply chains across Central Queensland.

From mining to agriculture to manufacturing, this project is set to back regional industries, support jobs and keep Queensland connected to global markets.
