Honouring the Heroes of Crete – 84 Years On
It was a great honour to attend the 84th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Crete (Μάχη της Κρήτης) as the Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland.
Held at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George in South Brisbane, this moving event brought together our Greek and Australian communities in remembrance of one of the most defining moments of WWII. We paid tribute to the extraordinary courage of the Cretan people and the ANZAC soldiers who stood together in the face of overwhelming adversity.
The Divine Liturgy, the wreath-laying ceremony at the Hellenic RSL Memorial, and the warm fellowship that followed reminded us of the enduring bond between Greece and Australia—built on shared sacrifice, mutual respect, and unwavering freedom.
Sincere thanks to the Cretan Association of Queensland and its President Mr. Anthony Katsanevas for organising such a meaningful commemoration.
May we always remember the heroism and resilience of those who fought for liberty—lest we forget.
