Mount Ommaney Special School The Mount Ommaney Special School campus provides educational programs for learners with disabilities from birth through to their graduation from school.

The Mount Ommaney Special School campus provides educational programs for learners with disabilities from birth through to their graduation from formal schooling. Since 2012, the school is gradually expanding its role within the region to provide programs for the diverse range of learners, who meet the criteria for special school enrolment. As it has always done, the school continues to provide pr

ograms for school age children with high and complex support needs, as well as hosting an Early Childhood Development Program for students not yet of compulsory schooling age. While our school is located in the suburb of Mount Ommaney, we provide service to areas well beyond the Centenary suburbs. In line with its steady growth and expanding focus, the school is organised into four sectors or learning areas; early years sector, middle phase sector, senior school sector and intensive interaction sector.

Their patience, kindness, skill, and unwavering dedication make an extraordinary difference to the lives of our students and families.

Thank you for the countless moments that often go unseen, for always going above and beyond, and for bringing your compassion and enthusiasm to school every day. Simply put—we couldn’t do it without you.

📚✨ Book Week at MOSS! ✨📚

Our Book Week parades looked a little different this year, with the building works and limited parking meaning we celebrated in our hubs. But that certainly didn’t stop the amazing costumes, creativity and love of books from shining through! 💛

We saw some fabulous Chicken Divas, Roald Dahl favourites, a little taste of the land of Far, Far Away, the Green Sheep and her rainbow of sheep friends, colourful Crayons, magical fantasy characters and even a wonderful Down on the Farm tribute! 🐔🐑🖍️👑🌈

A huge thank you to our students, staff and families for putting so much effort into celebrating Book Week. It was wonderful to see everyone embracing the fun and sharing their favourite authors, characters and stories.

There’s nothing quite like seeing the joy that books can bring! 📖💫

💦 Swimming Fun in ADE Hub! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

ADE Hub has been having an amazing time at swimming this term! Every week our students have been building their confidence in the water while having lots of fun with their friends.

We have loved practising our floating, kicking, splashing, blowing bubbles and moving through the water. It's been wonderful to see everyone giving new skills a go.

Swimming is a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop water confidence, coordination, strength and independence in a safe and supportive environment. Most importantly, we've had plenty of smiles, laughter and splashes!

We are so proud of all our swimmers for their enthusiasm, resilience and willingness to try their best each week. Well done, ADE Hub! 🌊💙

In weeks 1 and 2 of this term, our school proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week through meaningful learning experiences that helped students connect with and celebrate the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Across the school, classes explored culture through stories, music, art and hands-on activities. During reading sessions, students enjoyed Country and Somebody’s Land, using these texts to build understanding and spark thoughtful discussions.
Students also took part in engaging hub activities, including clay symbol art, painting, a NAIDOC scavenger hunt, bush tucker tasting, and sensory exploration of natural materials, artefacts and Australian animals connected to Country.
To conclude our celebrations, each hub contributed to a collaborative mural reflecting our shared learning and respect for First Nations cultures. This artwork is now proudly displayed in our front reception area.
A big thank you to our staff for their planning and to our students for their enthusiasm, curiosity and respect throughout the celebrations.

It has been exciting to watch our G Hub students jump straight back into their Literacy routines this Term. From the start of the year, the children have been introduced to the Shared and Dialogic reading structure which has been implemented throughout the school.
Our little ones have been focusing on early concepts of print, vocabulary, comprehension and increasing engagement with texts. We have used a range of texts based on the children’s interests to foster a love of books and an interest in text. Sensory and play based activities have been designed to extend the children’s interest and encourage a response to what they have read.
Throughout this process we have watched our children enjoy storytelling with puppets, props and interactive sensory play trays. They have constructed their own sentences choosing words to add to sentence starters using their individual talkers or Alternative Language Displays (ALD’s) and been part of the process of writing class books. These class books have now become the books of choice during quite reading time.
What a joy it has been to see their faces light up as they find their own page with self-selected words and letters and a photo of themselves as authors.
