Thank you to everyone who danced, tapped, and sung their way through our free Seniors Country Concert yesterday.

Smiles all round as we enjoyed the fantastic music of Melissa Langton and Mark Jones – Australia’s celebrated cabaret act, presenting 'What’s New Pussycat'.

This concert is the highlight of our Seniors Festival program — it’s wonderful to see everyone enjoying life. And we still have a couple more events to go, seniors can join in at the Morning Melodies events on:

Building a new city for Melbourne’s north, one block at a time 🧱

Today we joined Rob Mitchell MP - Federal Labor Member for McEwen, Hume City Council, the City of Whittlesea, Stockland, and the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. at Kalkallo to launch planning for Cloverton.

Cloverton is a future city centre where Hume, Mitchell and Whittlesea meet. It’s set to become the main hub for jobs, health care, education, transport and services for a region expected to be home to around 380,000 people.

The Australian Government’s $2.6 million investment is funding:

🏙️ an Urban Design Framework, which will shape how the centre looks, feels and works

📋 a Regional Needs Assessment, which will identify what infrastructure and services the region needs, and when

It’s a rare chance to plan a city before it’s built, so jobs and services arrive alongside the people who need them.

The Aussie Bird count has kicked off this week and we need your help to spot and record birds around Mitchell Shire 🦉

The Shire has three focal species – the Superb Fairy Wren (pictured here), the Gang Gang Cockatoo and the Barking Owl – see if you can spot them!

This year more than ever Aussie Bird Count will play an important role in understanding bird counts in different areas and the potential impact bird flu may have.

Why not take 20mins to switch off and immerse yourself in nature’s sights and sounds 👀

The deadline for nominations for the Mitchell Shire Australia Day Community Awards is fast approaching!

7 categories to celebrate our local legends doing amazing work in our community.

Note that we have changed two categories this year to help catch a wider range of volunteers and groups, they are:

💓 The Health and Wellbeing Award: This award recognises an individual or group who has enhanced health, wellbeing or resilience in the community.

💪 The Sport and Recreation Award: This award recognises an individual or group who has contributed to community participation in active lifestyles, sports, recreation or physical activity.

One party’s in the picture on Beveridge Station. There’s room for more. 📸🚆

Greens candidate for Kalkallo Payal Tiwari (Tiwarigreens) grabbed a selfie with Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall, and Councillors after committing $15 million to plan and design the station – the first party to commit.

The station is already in the State’s plans. It’s been recommended by Infrastructure Victoria, planned for by the Victorian Planning Authority and included in the Northern Growth Corridor Plan. What it needs now is funding.

So, Labor, Liberals and Nationals, and every candidate: where do you stand on Beveridge Station?
