🚔 FAWKNER HIGHWAY PATROL — 5 IMPOUNDS, 5 VERY EXPENSIVE DECISIONS 🚔

Some people see a Highway Patrol car and think, “I should probably slow down.”
Others apparently see one and think, “Challenge accepted.” 🤦♂️
Yesterday, Fawkner Highway Patrol had a busy afternoon and evening, with five vehicles impounded and several drivers learning that some decisions come with a rather hefty price tag.
Here’s how it unfolded 👇
🏎️ 1. The Hume Highway speed run
At 2:58pm, a 23-year-old Greenvale man was detected travelling south on the Hume Highway in Campbellfield at 123km/h in an 80km/h zone.
After police performed a U-turn to intercept him, he accelerated to 149km/h in the same 80km/h zone before apparently noticing the red and blue lights in his rear-view mirror.
That’s 69km/h over the limit. Not exactly a subtle attempt to avoid attention.

🚫 Licence suspended for 12 months
🧾 Fine: $1,046
🔥 2. The burnout enthusiast
At 3:32pm, police were stopped at a red traffic light on Blair Street, Dallas, when a 20-year-old Hadfield man decided it would be “cool” to show his passenger a burnout.
The small detail he overlooked? A marked Highway Patrol car sitting right beside him.
Unfortunately, the audience was less impressed than he may have hoped.

⚖️ Expected to receive a summons to appear in the Magistrates’ Court.
🏁 3. The unlicensed Mercedes driver
At 5:10pm, a 17-year-old unlicensed Broadmeadows man was intercepted driving an unroadworthy, high-powered Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG.
The vehicle was defected and immediately grounded before being impounded.
A performance car might look impressive, but roadworthiness requirements still apply — regardless of what badge is on the bonnet. And driving unlicensed certainly doesn’t help matters.

🧾 Two fines totalling $1,882.
🪑 4. The passenger-seat plot twist
At 6:33pm, a 29-year-old Hadfield man was seen travelling north on Reservoir Drive, Coolaroo. After seeing police, he disobeyed a traffic lane arrow and continued into Roxburgh Park Shopping Centre.
When police stopped alongside him, he was seen moving from the driver’s seat into the passenger seat.
His explanation? He had been parked for a long time, relaxing and listening to music.
Even after police showed him the dashcam footage, he continued to deny driving.
Unfortunately, changing seats doesn’t change what the footage shows. 🎥
The man was field-interviewed in relation to driving while suspended.

🚀 5. The P-plater in a hurry
At 7:44pm, a 22-year-old Roxburgh Park man was detected travelling south on Pascoe Vale Road from Somerton Road at 140km/h in an 80km/h zone.
That’s 60km/h over the limit — and another driver who apparently didn’t realise police were following.
The man’s reason for speeding? He was allegedly trying to avoid being late for an 8pm dinner booking in St Kilda.
Unfortunately, after being intercepted by police, arriving on time became considerably less likely. 🍽️
The vehicle was prohibited under the driver’s P-plate licence conditions.

🧾 Three fines totalling $1,673 and six demerit points.

The takeaway?
The road isn’t a racetrack. A public traffic light isn’t a burnout arena. And if Highway Patrol is behind you, changing seats probably isn’t the master plan you think it is.
Slow down. Drive to the conditions. Follow your licence conditions.
Because getting where you’re going safely is always better than explaining to your mates why your car is sitting in an impound yard. 👮♂️🚔
